Rolling Thread About Bbc House Price Ramping

I thought it might be interesting to collate all the items to show if there is any BBC bias. Feel free to add ones you remember before the start of this thread.

Post the program, date, time, who was on it and the views aired whether they were for house prices up or down, now is good time to buy, should people be allowed to borrow more etc. Any conclusion

You could also post things that aren't mentioned e.g. days when indices report house prices are down but the BBC may ignore it.

I'll start.

Dec 15th 8:40am News Channel - BBC news item used to air the views of a Mr Woodhead from the Building Society Association.

House prices will be no worse than stable in 2011, sellers not dropping prices as there are plenty of cash buyers, the respondents in our survey think now is a great time to buy, the only thing holding people back is that they cannot get access to the finance they want.

Conclusion - The more money building societies loan the more profits they make, so a vested interest given time to try ramp house sales

BBC Breakfast News. 07.50 am this morning. Coogan bloke on from CML. Not one mention of house prices being too high. Went through all the 'negative' things for house prices just now but then stated that they will probably be 'flat' or some other similar word in 2011. Even the Presenter gave him a bit of a nudge about this pointing to prices falling. However he then proceeded to deluge some chat that really didn't make sense as to why prices would not fall.

Oh and after all the 'negative' examples shown on the screen the one 'good' example was that prices would not fall in 2011. The mention that prices falling may actually be a good thing ? Not mentioned. As per usual.

3 years since this all kicked off - and they still do this. Quite shameless really.

Although not TV or Radio, the BBC UK house prices webpage here needs a special mention.

Especially because of the way it leads one to believe that the source for it's figures are the land registry,

though the BBC has av. house prices for the end of the July-Sept period at £246,387 & the Land Registry

has av. prices for Sept at £166,769.

I think you could just post their daytime schedules over the last decade: "Homes Under the Hammer", "To Buy or Not to Buy", "Trading Up", "Open House", "Buy it, Sell it, Bank it", "To Build or Not to Build", "Living in the Sun", etc.

This is what can be used as part of the case to explain their bias.

It will be interesting to see if C5 can capture the title of property porn channel of the year.

Personally I would award the title of property porn newspaper of the year to the Daily Express

Mods, this really ought to be a fixed (pinned) thread, then again there is so much property ramping bias in the media, you could fill a whole forum by itself, let alone a single topic. Predict this will become as big as "Australia faces its demons."

Rather than moaning about it, can't we do the following:

Write to the BBC and remind them that they have to put the contrary view when doing editorials (which is essentially what this is) then offer a (sane) representative of this site to provide a counterpoint?

We could highlight the high numbers of readers/members of this blog and as long as we don't cone across as (too) doom peddling and get our facts right, we'll stop the monopoly currently held by such %|€¥¥|~€s as John €|!~$ing Charcoal!

Just need someone who won't suffer career issues (a la the original spokesman) as a result of speaking out...

I think this old post by penbat1 deserves a reprint. It's not a 'BBC only' list, but it's a real eye-opener. Remember, it is just the UK's output; every other country has its own list! And it's only up to 2007 - a few more have rolled off the old conveyor belt since then!

Amazing that the media, particularly the impartial BBC, has escaped any criticism for the economic crisis. In my view they are one of the major causes, since they fed a fashion for 'property investment'.

I think perhaps their turn will come when people realise that property investment in Manchester or Luton, not remote complex financial deals in the City of London, were the cause of the mess we were in. Right now people think property speculators are an innocent victim of evil bankers, when in fact it was the other way around.

Luckily the media seem to have turned their attention to dancing.

I complained to the BBC and got a reply and case number which was unsatisfactory. I've emailed them twice since and they have ignored me. I have also emailed the BBC Trust directly quoting my case number and they have ignored me.

Now I have asked the DCMS why this biased channel is self-regulating and thinks itself above reproach.

This is why it won't happen. I'm sure there's an apt Marx quote, but basically the middle-classes are smart enough to do something but have just enough to lose so that they can't risk it.

To be honest this is exactly what the labour party ought to be doing, but they are thicker than a castle wall made of MacDonald's milkshake.

Jeremy Hunt is the minister in charge of that department, and also our MP. Therefore, I've been on his case for the last three years, giving him a hard time on just about every subject that's debated on here.

I think I can safely sum up the essence of his responses thus;

"Thank you very much for your letter, you sad little loser. Ah yes, you're the renter (pauses to scrape me out of his instep with his House of Commons pencil...)

Every single other constituent, in my leafy South West Surrey constituency, is a greedy troughing sh!thead boomer, or overleveraged plonker who thought an 8 x salary mortgage, to cover over a million quid on a decent-sized family home, was a good idea.

They are now right in the cr@p, but since they represent 99% of my votes around here, I'm afraid you appear to have mistaken me for someone who gives a sh!t about your minority viewpoint.

We really need to get the banks lending again, so I'd best go and do that bit of my job - at the same time as being a rank apologist for the BBC.

I'm a humble employee and would get sacked. There must be someone on this site who runs their own small business who could step up? Pricedout have a woman who speaks sometimes, could we badger her to get on more often? That said, I'm sure someone on here could do it better. Someone? Anyone?

Just in case you took my post the wrong way; I wasn't suggesting you shouldn't have made the representation to that site. We all need to make every representation, on every occasion and in every place that we possibly can, and I salute you for taking the time to do it.

I was just making the observation, that our Jezzer doesn't appear to be that interested in our cause. Rhyming slang and all that, ifyernarmean

In other words, it was a pop at my so-called elected representative, and absolutely not a pop at you.

Got to keep a track of both sides of this to make it reasonable.

I agree we should definitely keep a track of both sides. The thread can only be deemed successful when the anti-high house prices posts outnumber the ramping ones.

There's been a few people on here taking the time to complain to the BBC recently - maybe the message is getting through a little?
