And it's one of those that I hear for the first time and think "That could be one of the best dance tracks I've ever heard". I've just tried "Papua New Guinea" again. Still hate it. I tried a friend with that one. "Do you get anything from this?" "No. It sounds like the music from a 1980s B-movie by John Carpenter". And I know exactly what he meant. What I do hear is a mixing of a number of styles in a way that is unusual, in its day, perhaps ground-breaking. It's alright for about the first 60 seconds until the drum kicks in but what I hear sounds like three or four different tracks that don't mix, cut together. I'm tempted to think that you're right - it's not one to dance to. Maybe it works after some ketamine. Though I can do the "journey" ones. This one's more hard-edged and metallic. From the superb album - had that on recently, still great. To me, it's experimental (progressive techno?) that really works creatively. Perhaps after all the dance music I needed something more intellectual / progressive . I stopped clubbing regularly around 1991/2, I hated most of the speeded up " Happy hardcore" rave stuff. The Rave scene was getting controlled by gangsters, too drug influenced , non original & commercialised . Ironically, I was living & working in Caledonian rd round the corner from your bagleys from 91-95 & never went to Bagleys, . I got back into Ambient dub stuff in 93, again a lot it was a more mellow muso groove, not hard core dance, perhaps I needed a break from it. I loved my techno though, which stemmed from some of its its Belgium New Beat roots. Funny you should mention Living for the City, One of all time fave covers is Tina Turners one (I have 12" , not found on Yt) Lovely sound on this brutal Hip house type looper Master Techno - My Noise [1992] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khW8f97FH3U Edited November 13, 2016 by Saving For a Space Ship

I got really into them a few yrs back, like a new form of music if done well. I posted original club mix before, but this mix is wonderful imo, taking it much further, with some "journey " original work , mixing in piano from another house classic FPI Project - Everybody (All Over The World). My friend sam - It's My Pleasure (Raul Rincon Rmx) Rejuvination - Requiem (Part 1) Edited November 30, 2016 by Saving For a Space Ship
DTMark
That's a decent tune. I think the second link might be wrong OK not dance, but it's the ultimate mash-up.

It was Jeff Mills' "The Bells" (below) that first got me into techno when I heard it on John Peel's show as a 16 year old, which serendipitously enough was the first track playing as I entered the Main Hall at my first Atomic Jam at The Q Club. I think that was where my love of jump-up d&b started too...
DTMark
One of those rare times when I think the 7" single mix was the best one. My #1 of 1998. Not on YouTube yet - nobody seems to have this. So have uploaded it. Paganini Traxx - Release Yourself
