Brown, through a totally inept decision, wrote the bankers an IOU with the taxpayers' signature on it. Cameron and Clegg are saying 'yes, you the people must pay for Gordon Brown's folly and we're going to make damn sure you know you're paying'. To rub salt into the wound, a few days after £6 billion public spending cuts were announced buy Osborne, he gave £7 billion to Ireland. As if to say 'tee-hee-hee, we had the money all along, we just wanted to be nasty to you, the voters, because we think you're a bunch of peasants'. I've always been a Lib Dem up to now, but feel completely betrayed. Not betrayed by Nick Cleggs agreement to a coalition, but betrayed by how things have turned out since - with the Tories and Lib Dems together punishing the people for Labour's foolishness. If there was an election tomorrow I would vote Labour, partly as a protest. I could no longer bring myself to vote for the Lib Dems and although I'm a public-school educated "toff" myself, I'm no Tory. The whole thing is run by a bunch of self serving gits who have got where they are due to money , who daddy knew, or ar-e licking and towing the party line. They are insulated form the real world by money and networking , they do not care a jot for the everyday man in the street and are just looking after number one's career and money. This is the whole problem, there's no vision in politics, not by any of the parties, because all their previous visions have blown up in their faces. Old style socialism backfired on Labour in the 70's when the unions started to see the state sector as a cash cow. Thatcherism saw our state industries privatised only to end up in foreign hands a few years later and our manufacturing base eroded by 'inward investment' by foreign companies. Blair's 'cool Britannia' and 'third way' were no more than feel-good chants. Brown was ... err-hem.... just a disaster, complete and utter. The Lib Dems' vision of co-operative government and proportional representation has ended with them being Tory glove puppets. So I agree with your comment! Clegg was always going to lose half his parties support. Now We will see what he's made of. And his party. They are unable to see that whatever happens people will still need to buy food fuel and utilities, theyll still want durables and people will still have to be paid to make them. The sky will not fall in if they reform our money system. They really do believe wealth can come from shifting numbers on a balance sheet around.
