But Howard Archer, chief economist at IHS Global Insight, said he still expected house prices to show double-digit falls from their 2010 peaks by the end of 2011. "The housing market really does not seem to have got much going for it at the moment," he said.

He said house prices would be kept under pressure by "a poor combination of factors for house prices", including public sector job cuts, low consumer confidence following spending cuts, difficulties in getting a mortgage and low wage inflation.

I really am sick of the media and their spin that high house prices are a good thing.

They have helped destroy the future of this country.

I guess most of them as 40+ home-owners mortgaged up to the hilt and s**ting themselves.

Can't see past the end of their noses most of them and really shouldn't be allowed to air their selfish views in public.

a market that can only be sustained with increasing leverage is clearly a Ponzi...it can only fail, like any other Pyramid Scam.

Nevertheless, a bit of an epiphany for the hootsman.

They have missed their usual chance to say that prices are still soaring (over a convenient and highly selected time period) and that Scotland is bucking the trend when compared to those colonial b@stards down south.
