Tchenguiz To Buy Santander City

Recommended Posts

FT article Tchenguiz

Robert Tchenguiz, the UK property tycoon, is making an audacious return to the real estate sector, leading an Abu Dhabi-backed consortium targeting the €2.3bn (£1.9bn) Spanish headquarters of Santander.

The consortium, which has the backing of Aabar, a state-linked investment vehicle, has agreed to buy about £200m of debt provided by Royal Bank of Scotland that helped fund the acquisition of the landmark nine-building complex in Madrid.

Interesting... Santander City financed with money from RBS... Hmm, it wasn't just in Edinburgh that they were building very expensive corporate HQs...

Why didn't Santander fund this themselves? Why is Santander now flogging part of it - need the cash?
