Medieval England

Looks like things were not so bad in Ye Olden Days.

Probably coz they didn't have egotist non-working *****a's in Universities spouting ******** theoretical policies to be carried out on the population and in workplaces.

We're SO efficient in the workplace, that millions of people produce - Nothing!:):D:lol:

And they still don't "get it" in the Uni's the top brainsters! <_<

Same with modern day architects - their crap designed/built monstrosities from the 50's-80's are raised to the ground regularly.

Timber frame houses + Georgian + Victorian > onwards still stand the test-of-time!

Makes sense. No modern medicine and no Geldof --> self-regulating poverty levels and no major overpopulation problem.

More striking might be to compare today's poorest countries with those same countries before western values reached them ...

The Black Plague and Small Pox were a bit of a bummer though...

Actually if you survived it (and the rich were hit just as hard as the poor) it was a boon for the lower classes. Shortage of workforce for the upper classes pushed up wages significantly (50%+) for many decades

Fast forward four hundred years or so, free market capitalism enters the realm.

Beautiful in it's purity, not deformed by a welfare state. Yes, true capitalism has been well tried.

Productivity and manufacturing capability soared. The British Navy became the dominant global power.

Life expectancy was reduced to a low thirty-something.

I'm not sure when "the olden days" started and ended, but it's certainly true that they would have had their "golden ages", and booms and busts just like today!

Read sensible historical source (can't remember which ATM) about the population of the England pre-black death. If you go back 50 years before the Black Death, then the level of population in England was one which did not re-occur until the 18th century. Yup, climate change and the death of 50% of the population between them held back population levels for several centuries, not decades :o

The Black Plague and Small Pox were a bit of a bummer though...

No paracetamol, no antibiotics, no general anaesthetics and if your wife needed a Caesarian then the child might, but probably wouldn't, survive and your wife was most certainly dead.

No tea, no coffee, no fizzy sugar water, No chicken tikka marsala and for most people a very boring diet. And when it got cold (a topic which seems quite important JATM) you just shivered and waited it out.

Nope, all in all I think I stick with here and now.

No, only the small percentage that stood the test of time have stood the test of time.

Most have fallen down or been demolished.

Exactly, and the ones that have stood the test of time have only done so because theyve become rare enough for people to deem it worth spending large amounts of money to preserve them.

Just like WW1 and WW2 aircraft and classic cars for example.

Hardly surprising , Africa is hopeless.

They only do well when Whites or Asians rule over them.

http://www.newzimbabwe.com/news-3962-Recriminations%20as%20white%20farmers%20return/news.aspx

White farmers are moving back into Zimbabwe so there is some hope for that country , maybe they can get off that list of worlds poorest nations with the help of the white farmers.

From medieval times, yes, and a lot of those would be from the better end of accommodation at the time. If you're only going back to Georgian or Victorian then they're still here simply because they're built well enough, and most of the ones that have been demolished went due to post-war planners thinking how great it would be to knock them all done and replace them with that wonderful new concrete architecture. In 500 years' time I wouldn't be surprised if there are more 19th century buildings in England than 20th.

Then they used to invest in the future...things were built to last....now things are made to break and wear and be replaced not repaired......high turnover of consumer goods keeps us purchasing more and the economy healthy. ;)

And when they get killed again and chased off the land once again, it now can be blamed on their stupidity in returning to Zimboland.

Mugabe is not the only black man who loathes the white man in Zimbabwe and they will rise once again, to kill ******. There is no point in living in that country.

No, only the small percentage that stood the test of time have stood the test of time.

Except for rarer timber built coz only the rich could afford them (many were built using old ship timbers) - rest of the population lived in wattle and daub hovel villages, were thrown off their land (and blocked from using commons and roads for their livestock) by the rich and forced into towns, whilst the elite's henchmen burned their old homes down to make sure they couldn't come back! (just like they did with the 'Highland' clearances)

So yes their houses/villages were wiped off the face of the earth by the Elite landgraBBers!

Otherwise there are 10's of thousands and millions of houses built in the other era's!

there was a major overpopulation problem reaching a peak in 1250. Then followed black death and a long period of wars. The population of western Europe didn't recover to 1250 levels until about 1700!

Ahhhh yes!

And charge thousands of percent mark-up on any replacement parts if you wanted to mend stuff!

It's Big Business who force us to fiLL landfills so fast (by building in product breakdown and obsolescence) so don't let their Greeny henchmen make you feel guilty about it!

It's deliberate policy by the Elite's Glowball businesses, who then get Politicians to overtax the population and berate us because we are forced to get rid of obsolete, unmendable items.

It also removes peoples skills (when we used to get things mended) dumbing down the population further and robbing us of jobs.
