SarahBell
HOW MUCH There are different levels of NMW, depending on your age and whether you are an apprentice. The current rates are: * £5.93 - the main rate for workers aged 21 and over * £4.92 - the 18-20 rate * £3.64 - the 16-17 rate for workers above school leaving age but under 18 * £2.50 - the apprentice rate, for apprentices under 19 or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship So 20X minimum wage is either about £90k or £210k depending on whether you have "apprentice slaves" It's still a lot of money - espec if minimum wage is used. As a boss I would a ) sack everyone under the age 21. b ) Increase my salary from 90k to 190k Job done! Yep. Besides, the public sector is very found of contracting private companies to do the low paid jobs, like cleaners. Easy loophole there. Self Employed Youth
It really should be lower, 5:1 would still allow them to earn a hell of a lot.

It is a con, and creates false incentives. Why employ a cleaner on NMW if this limits your earnings to £210k? Much better to contract out the cleaning (and pay more for this facility) and you can increase the limit on your salary.

The obvious solution is to make it any implied employee which would include contract cleaners .... or cut out the cr@p and just make it 20x the NMW. Bloo Loo
fine, give the max a 20 to 1. then cut all salaries by 50% above 25K. then get rid of 50% of managers, their cars, their pensions, their mobiles, their ipads, their suit allowances, their expense accounts, their office space, their £20,000 furniture, their 1st class travel.....and let the workers GET ON WITH THEIR JOBS.
