B&Q lines up 22 stores for closure as sales tumble

B&Q, the DIY chain owned by Kingfisher, is considering closing more than 20 stores as it seeks to improve efficiency in the face of the harshest environment that the DIY sector has experienced for decades.

The move, which could be announced when Kingfisher unveils its interim results on Thursday, is part of a restructuring of B&Q by Ian Cheshire, its new chief executive.

B&Q is understood to be considering the closure of up to 16 of its smaller supercentres and six of its larger warehouse stores. Around 1,400 jobs would be affected.
