They reckon this creosote bush/ring is 11,700 years old - think of that in Human Civilisation terms.


Some hunter-gatherer may have stopped and had a wee on one of these bushes... and then the bush just chilled whilst all the great civilisations rose and fell.

As it's a clonal colony, no part of the creosote plant is actually 11,700 years old (and there are far longer lived other clonal colonies) but I like your imagery. As a species we have a very over-inflated sense of importance.
