LetsGetReadyToTumble
I emailed the following to my MP. I wonder if enough people did the same, they might at least get to know how we feel. "Houses are unaffordable. Just an idea. 89% of the UK is NOT built upon. Cannot the government compulsory purchase land and sell decent sized plots with planning for say ten thousand pounds. Then we could self build our own house and give it character and 'local flavour'. Probably complete the whole project for around 80,000 pounds. The big builders have taken over, and their houses are small and awful. I hope they go bust. Why are we Brits getting such a chronic deal Mr George?" There you go. At least it made me feel better. There is a lot of unused land and we could make good use of it. He'll promise what you want to hear soon enough. In the meantime back to work, pay your taxes and stop asking awkward questions and being demanding. Poorly made, no noise insulation. Buy one, be in debt for life. No children or pets. No parking. No thanks

Not commenting on the specifics (which are sound by the way) but generally emailing MPs saying that you are fed up with house prices being so high and that you will vote for someone who doesn't try to stop the correction will give the MPs the idea that there is a voting group out there that won't mind house prices going down. Sadly there are an awful lot of people in small houses who want to get into bigger houses who think they are doing better when they have higher house prices. The same goes for people who are wondering why they aren't getting grandchildren when their kid's are stuck in pokey flats, but who would go ballistic if their house price "nest egg" were to go down significantly.
