Is The Us Really Becoming A Police State?

Recommended Posts

Just been reading info wars and was horrified to see this (though apparently a joke) document which was produced by the US TSA as a guide for children explaining to them why they need to be cavity searched.

Is this for real?   Has anyone on here ever had a cavity search at an airport?  I certainly haven't. Doesn't this only happen if you are taken into a side room on suspicion of carrying drugs or explosives, presumably something they'd need evidence for?

BTW this is part of the campaign against the use of naked body scanners in airports. Apparently in the UK children are protected as the scanners would fall foul of child porn laws, but apparently they have had incidents of the operators perving over women who are put through the machines according to Alex.

All this nonsense has come about because of the PC nonsense about not "profiling" people.  Personally I believe if someone has spent 6 months on the Pakistani/Afghan border, is 23 and muslim then you might want to investigate their security in a bit more detail, where as Mr and Mrs Goldberg from New York probably don't need such detailed attention.

Across the democratic world every year there seems to be more rules, more regulations, bigger penalties, less freedom. It seems the politicians are powerless as compared to these state bureaucracies.

While in dictatorships around the world the same process does not seem to be happening. In some ways they seem to be going the other way, like women enjoying rights they didn't enjoy before in Islamic dictatorships.

Nah not been searched in that way. But whenever I use Manchester airport the metal barrier gate ALWAYS beeps no matter what even if I am careful not to have anything metal on me including my clothes. And I ALWAYS get put through an additional security check patted down, have to take out every single item of hand luggage to be carefully inspected. 10 years ago somebody jokes about a high tech security system that could identity suspicious behaviour on the London tube. Somebody joked that if they are non whites = criminals and terrorists. I thought they were joking at the time.

That cartoon has been around for a long time and was meant ironically.

I think the point is that the photographer showed that one TSA agent was using it as a screen saver, thus providing an insight into the mind of the operative.

This has now crossed over into wider media coverage via the Drudge Report and to some MSM outlets.

The choice is let's see you naked or feel you up. :o

Any chance we can change the capital letter sensitivity of topic titles just a tiny bit so that US stops appearing as Us for instance?

I just swabbed for explosive residue upon leaving Belfast City Airport at Christmas.

Maybe it's because I look like a Catholic terrorist - because they were only pulling 1 in 20 or so aside.

IMHO Jones is pretty much right on everything, though his style is waaaaay over the top.

He does himself no favours when he goes bonkers on air, he just gives ammo to those who say he's a nut-job.

His latest campaign/idea is to get people to email Disney etc saying that they won't be visiting because of airport security. I think it's a very fair point and it's certainly true for me. I wasn't going to Disney but I was considering a Christmas abroad. IN the end though, the thought of UK airport security and paying air/carbon taxes just put me off.

Fact is, air travel is a nightmare these days.

You just have to take people as you find them, people shouldn't have to fit into preconceived notions about how you should act.Who makes the rules? Better to look beyond the person to the info.

The terrorists and fundamentalists have won in that they have succeeded in allowing us to allow our spineless politicians to introduce pointless restrictions in the name of ever greater "security". It really is nothing of the sort, of course, because terrosists will always find another way by which tio kill people.

I don't like the body scanners or the full body search, but I'd still rather they were there than not.

I'm the first to argue with checks such as these on principle, and I'm not a particularly nervous person or flier. However, planes are still very appealing targets for terrorism - particularly when travelling to the US. They're vulnerable without detailed security checks.

What I don't get is why they don't use more sniffer dogs at the security checkpoints. Surely they would be a great and cost effective way of identifying explosives and drugs?

Edit - agreed air travel is a nightmare. Took 6 flights last week and that's me done for the next few years I hope.

I found this article by former Reagan appointee and ex WJS editor Paul Craig Roberts a little disturbing, to say the least.

http://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2010/11/12/americas-devolution-into-dictatorship/

The United States Department of Justice (sic) routinely charges and convicts innocents with bogus and concocted crimes that are not even on the statutes book. The distinguished defense attorney and civil libertarian, Harvey A. Silverglate, published a book last year, “Three Felonies A Day: How the Feds Target the Innocent,” which conclusively proves that today in “freedom and democracy” America we have punishment without crime.

This same Justice (sic) Department, which routinely frames and railroads the innocent, argued in Federal Court on November 8 that the US government, if approved by the president, could murder anyone it wishes, citizens or noncitizens, at will. All that is required is that the government declare, without evidence, charges, trial, jury conviction or any of the due process required by the US Constitution, that the government suspects the murdered person or persons to be a “threat.”

The US Justice (sic) Department even told US Federal District Court Judge John Bates that the US judiciary, formerly a co-equal branch of government, has absolutely no legal authority whatsoever to stick its nose into President “Change” Obama’s decision to assassinate Americans. The unaccountability of the president’s decision to murder people is, the US Justice (sic) Department declared, one of “the very core powers of the president as commander in chief.”

The argument by the Justice (sic) Department that the executive branch has unreviewable authority to kill Americans, whom the executive branch has unilaterally, without presenting evidence, determined to pose a threat, was challenged by the American Civil Liberties Union and the Center For Constitutional Rights. The outcome of the case will determine whether the neoconservative and Israeli stooge, president George W. Bush, was correct when he said that the US Constitution was nothing but a “scrap of paper.”
