Tim Geithner denies US is planning to weaken the dollar
James "Jimbo" Quinn, 13:05, Saturday 6 November 2010
Tim "Timothy" Geithner, US Treasury Secretary, has hit back at suggestions the US is using its latest $600bn (£370bn) round of quantitative easing to purposely weaken the dollar.
Following claims from Wolfgang Schaeuble, the German finance minister, that what the US accuses China of doing, the US is doing by different means, Mr Geithner rejected the notion that decisions by the Federal Reserve earlier this week somehow contained an ulterior motive.
He said that the US wont ever use our dollar as a tool for economic advantage - noting that capital is flowing towards the emerging markets to fuel growth in those areas.

The $ devaluation is no longer in the planning stage as Tim says, the plan has been executed. Now let the others try to catch up and see what happens.

He is right, there is no ulterior motive.

Bernanke wants to keep banks afloat and asset prices high.

the only fly in the ointment is that anything anyone MUST buy to survive, will rise in price...this is NOT inflationery though.:D

Hot off the press," Tim Geithner denies he needs oxygen, turns blue and collapses!"

LOL I like that one.

Anyway, seriously, who expects anyone to say the US are purposefully devaluing the dollar, or the UK the GBP. The Chinese and others would have a field day. You don't talk about it you just do it.

The trick is to make noises about stability whilst turning the speed dial on the   printer to max.

Misinformation at it's finest.

Yes, I never quite know whether this is a deliberate conspiracy or just what they think they have to do to bring about stability.

I guess he can't go "christ we being forced to print so much money that we can't expect the dollar to stay afloat much longer, so spend them all before christmas" as that would cause a collapse, but at the same time they are printing so much of the stuff that its bound to collapse.

It almost as though they are trapped into lying by doing what they think is right - there is of course a more cynical view available.

One of the companies that produces lie detecting software  on phone calls for insurance firms should develop something for TVs. So when someone is telling a big fib it goes off the top of the scale. It would be handy for lots of purposes, put me down as a beta tester.

We could just have an election worm.

I think I've heard that one of our MPs was elected by telling lies about his opponent. That buy election wouldn't be needed if we all had lie detecting TVs.

A fair point - though perhaps the lies would be picked up if there was more choice of candidate. People seem to be happy with a choice if liars.

Would it beep when a lie is told?

Christ just think how annoying watching question time would be with all that bloody bleeping?

Like it.

Could I also suggest that it would also turn the speaker a 5h1t colour?

Do you think we could take this to Dragon's Den?

I would like to have them all make me an offer but then tell them I don't need them anymore because they all made me an offer.
