Prices Are Dropping

Recommended Posts

We nearly bought a business recently in Devon. The vendors appear to have gone with another offer sadly so still here in France for the time being. Anyway while over there looking we went to see some new build near Oakhampton. The property was lovely but a bit steep (aren't they all?) so we left our number and went away. I said to the salesperson we thought it was a bit steep and she replied "we'll take an offer" so there was wiggle room then.

Mobile rang today - were we still interested they have "dropped all their prices".

Also looked at rental and while chatting to the letting agent he claimed his friend had bought on same estate and had a 50 grand discount (360 original asking) and told to keep quiet about it.

I'm beginning to think we are at the turning point.

£360k to £310k.... to £90k in the end.......... That's still steep.

These are the kind of anecdotes I come here for. After just 12 months kicking my heels (STR'd for personal reasons and didn't want to buy back in at the top) I have started making offers and in the middle of negotiating now.

EA's say to me "we'll take an offer" and when I quiz them on it I discover that they mean 195K on a 199K asking - hence I don't bother!

We nearly bought a business recently in Devon.

Out of interest, what sort of business?

Was this competition for it because it was under-priced or a sympton of an improving economy?
