Taxation - Comparisons

A mate of mine has just had his end of year tax statement in Australia. Earns equivalent of GBP35k. Income tax paid 6000GBP. All legal, no sneaky tweaks, no funny business, simple PAYE plus a couple of minor deductions (500 bucks) for work related expenses.

Looks like the UK income tax would be about 9k. His health insurance and super (pension) are 100GBP per month.

Just thought you might to tell your friends and fellow taxpayers in the UK there just how much we lose to the public sector and welfare parasites in comparison.
