Us And China Square Up To Each Other.

Nor can it easily boost Chinese consumer spending without establishing property rights and proper welfare with the accompanying rise in taxes, an existential threat to the regime.

Interesting that both welfare and even property rights are now being attacked in the west- the two things seen as a vital props for a successful modern economy.

Are we really that shocked that countries such as china are trying to undermine our economic status. Countries are all in competition for resources, economic growth and military power. We shouldn't expect cooperation this really is a global poker game.

We have gone soft in the west if we really think we can trust countries such as china. The are spending a worrying amount of their new wealth on military hardwear......

Churchill was widely accepted to be a warmongering crackpot who failed to accept the new reality of peaceful coexistance.

There are many many parallels, not least of which is the group-think that "it's all different now"

But is it, I wish it was. As soon as resources start running low I can't see these super powers coming together to pull resources. They will fight using every means necessary.

I think if our "meedja" could take their grubby eyes from the property porn and reinvent themselves as non politised observers and reporters of Facts and Events, they might be able to squeeze something between the Halifax and Rightmove reports like "China building huge hardened strategic submarine facility in the south china sea" or "Russia massively increases military spending", it might even increase the value of your house(if you've got a strong basement !

+1

It is so true

China investment funds, Russia funds, middle east funds etc etc

We wonder why terrorists hate us since we think we are being so nice.......except we throw money at their dictators and oligarchs and do their banking for them.

It is most bizarre how we sell ourselves out if we descend into 1984 it will be of our own making.

If China and the US start going at it I don't think a couple of Harriers are going to make much difference.

We'd do better to invest in bunkers and beans.
