Defence costs and thanks to the last shower of sh*te we are all but bankrupt! They had no respect for the armed forces and have left us with liitle options and this is just 8%...tomorrow will be interesting! If we were pushed into your metaphorical corner now, what would we do about it? Its the same old line by the defence VI's, but just who do we need to DEFEND ourselves against? Do we need 2 super carriers to defend ourselves? Defence is expensive and the now limited resources at our disposal should be deployed wisely. The UK uses fiat currency, it has no intrinsic value but it has value because the government demands it in taxes. This demand is enforced by the law, the law is backed by guns. This enforces demand, if demand enforcement fails so does the currency. The difference between somalia and the UK is a case of efficiency. So while Somali war lords have to directly point AK47s at people to get people to give stuff to them. This is terrifically inefficient, as soldiers need to be paid to collect taxes. The UK is different! Advanced brainwashing (which starts in school) exceptionally advanced propaganda means that the UK system is super efficient so people don't need an AK47 pointed in their face to make them hand over their stuff. They hand it over maybe grudgingly but do not put up much resistance to handing over their money. At present the UK does not need soldiers going house to house to collect taxes. This brainwashing is so advanced people will jump to defend the current system of gun pointing fiat. Some people lose the faith. For instance you get the odd granny who refuses to pay her council tax and she is kidnapped, this scares people into compliance. As it is almost universally shown on the news. It convertly says: "Pay up or else." How is this different to a gangbanger pointing a gun in your face? Very little. Once the faith is lost on a large enough scale bigger examples have to be made to 'force' faith upon people in currency and enforce demand. Iraq for instance would undermine the faith in the US$ so his country was bombed into oblivion. Iran sells oil in Euros guess what? They want to bomb them into oblvion too! That's a good thing, right? No more invasions of places like Iraq and Afghanistan. I've read that the fall of the Soviet Union was a bad thing for western democracy as our governments no longer had to pretend to be "free" so much anymore. So we say..... In 20 or 30 years time it'll be revealled that we just had cardboard cut outs and a couple of blokes to move them about every so often... For instance NATO had about a few days of ammo if the USSR ever attacked. The cavalry i.e the US forces wouldn't even be finished loading their kit before we'd be on the end of bayonettes. Much like it took Operation Corporate ages to get there. I mean hell we don't even have a troop ship anymore like the QE2, and most likely Cunard would say no you can't borrow our ship. We can afford an army, its just that we can't afford to 'project' power as previously.... or to buy rubbish over priced equipment that doesn't work, like the Nimrod..... how on earth they managed to use old BOAC Comet airframes in 2010 is beyond belief!
