Claimant Count 'reduced'

Recommended Posts

I keep hearing how less people claim JSA. The amount of unemployed reduces, yet more of my peers are becoming unemployed.

Now, I'm not one to be sceptical (well I am a bit), but wouldn't it be better to see the claimant RATE.

The boomers are retiring, and men of 60 can now claim pension credit instead of JSA (which is higher than the state pension).

I think it is quite possible the claimant count is falling as the amount of working age people decrease. However, I'd quite like the MSM to include in their reports, at the same time, the claimant rate....

Fewer seem to be retiring than ever before and are staying in work longer than ever before.

Claims are dropping because of part time work if anything. The cencus will make the figures look pretty good when an army of part timers have been employed to knock on doors. It is the reason that the figures always look good after christmas..... all of those short term part time jobs over the season.

When did this change? Sounds like I'll be retiring at 60.

I can remember signing on 5 years ago and the bloke next to me (over 60)being told that he didn't need to come in, they'd just pay his JSA .....but I don't know the situation now.
