I wondered why nobody had posted this interview up here yet, Of course Beeney doesn't consider herself in anyway responsible for her part the housing crisis...

check it out HERE

Are you responsible for the current housing crisis?

Apparently, several people have accused me of it. While it’s a compliment that people think I’m so influential I don’t think it’s down to little old me. I suspect Tony Blair and Gordon Brown weren’t thinking: ‘I mustn’t miss Property Ladder, I need to know what my interest rate policy will be.’ The criticism was I was encouraging people to purchase buy-to-lets. Maybe the odd person did but most just watched the show, thought ‘that looks fun’ and didn’t phone up for new mortgages the next day. I watch The X Factor but I don’t sign up for singing lessons and enter talent competitions.

Oh it's ok if the "odd person" thought .."well why not ,it looks fun depriving someone the chance of owning a home for my own gain" B)

Question to Sarah:

If the media has no effect on the public then why do companies spend billions advertising?

pretty spectacular straw man argument there

yup.

with x factor we know that the winners are better singers than us & that we'd be thoroughly mediocre if we signed up to a talent contest.

the thing about beeney was that any fool with no particular talent or expertise [almost every person on beeney's show would brazenly disregard every the advice of the so-called expert but do alright financially in the end due to the pwoperdee hyperinflation that was the backdrop to it all] could apparently earn megabucks by getting into BTL.

Oh FFS. If The Property Ladder had been pulled after it's first series would have made any difference to the property bubble? No, it would still have inflated to the same ludicrous degree.

Was Beeny's brand of property porn responsible for the late 80's bubble, the U.S, Spanish or Irish property bubbles? Nope, remarkably they all occured despite the absence of our amply proportioned property developer.

In every single episode she pointed out how much they'd made from the renovations and how much had been made from a rising market, and she stressed how foolish it was to rely on the latter to bail out a botched development. Which was far more than her contemporaries were ever able to do.

Big tits never advised or pushed anyone to buy anything.

She just stood there, pregnant, advising on how not to mess up with what they's already bought in general.

Shame on you for insulting the forum's intelligence by denying what is plainly self-evident.

The name Property Ladder tells you everything you need to know. This program pandered to ego and to avarice. It was a program whose sole aim was to entice viewers into making money with property.

Again people need to stop to refer to the players in that insane house price bubble.. If Brown and Banks had been more vigilant and less stupid (not sure that's possible) the housing market wouldn't be like it is.. I think if u really need to find the pig u need to turn on the labour and banks as they created that mess and can't bother to clean up.. I watched property ladder and it's not for that I went to borrow 10 times my salary to go on the ladder.. In any case, don 't worry about the morons who borrowed too much, soon we will see plenty of repo..

lets not get bogged down in oooo did what to oooo.

the interesting thing is that this is in the news in the first place. that the accuastion has been made. that she wants to distance herself from blame. that btl is being recognised as a wrong thing to do. so much bearfood in those facts alone.

Property ladder had little to do with btl. Letting the property post-renovation is normally a sign of being unable to sell.

She's talking about her deceased mother as a thinly disguised attempt at plugging her website.

This is some bullshizz and she ought to be ashamed.

Sarah ,like her rather less attractive and more rotund property porn colleague, who shall remain shameless nameless, are one trick ponies career wise, it's either daddies money or trying to get the lower classes to take on vast amounts of debt to foster the illusion of wealth and keep them in slavery for televisual entertainment! I wouldn't imagine that the word "shame" ever enters their vocabulary

Though she is right in pointing out the interest rate policy as the main reason behind the bubble. That loose monetary policy (2003-200...now!) was the main factor inflating the market, and helping home "improvers" to have so much and easy profits.

And to be fair to her, she was one of the few presenters (or the only one?) always pointing that aspect to the viewers, and advising caution.

Couldn't agree more, how anyone things Sarah Beeney has that much influence on our lives I'll never know. I would like to think most people when they are buying a property wouldn't be thinking Sarah Beeney recommends it so it must be good.

+ 1

Labour's loose monetary policy was the root cause. The rest were consequences.

Blah, blah

- nothing fair about her!

She's a GRADE 'A' rampa - like all the others!

She had other programs on, to do whole streets up specifically aimed to UP everyones house price! And did you notice how they used manipulating techniques thru PEER Pressure!

If you didn't join in the street tidy-up (price ramping) - you were instantly persona non grata & vilified amongst the street neighbours!

She even got EA's to give "before and after" figures

Do you agree that the main cause of the HPI was a loose monetary policy? Meaning, interest rates were too low for too long, mortgages too easily available, LTV too high, etc?

"Peer pressure" or Sarah Beeney would not be able to push UK HP up if interest rates were higher.

IRs and mortgage availability are much, much powerful factors than anything else. Sarah 9and the others) were much more a consequence of the bubble than a cause of it.

BTW, at the end of 2007 and in 2008-9 all those shows were still on air...

Erranta, please accept it: it was Labour's fault. I am sorry, but this is a fact.

Saying Beeney was in anyway responsible for the boom is like saying this forum is responsible for the current downturn because we're always talking the market down.

This missed the whole point - she's gone into revamping her persona to get away from her dirty deeds without acknowledging what she led millions of people into.

Loads of people keep making excuses for her - which is B@llox!

She's 100% GUILTY as all the rest of the property rampers!
