It seems a whole wealth of companies are reporting bad UK trading figures but some are being baled out by their European or American arms which are showing an increase in sales.

Interesting will be the smaller builders results which don't have foreign subsideries.

I have also noted an array of companies reducing their workforces which will show heavily in the unemployment figures eventually.

A distant relative of mine in Manchester reports that the building trade up there is in poor shape. He is a scaffolder and the work is drying up. Many scaffolding firms are returning their hired scaffolds to their suppliers to cut costs. He's happy enough to tick over so long as he can pay his staff - sad times at the moment.
