The Masked Tulip
David Cornwell, otherwise known as the author John Le Carre, is talking to Jon Snow on Channel 4 News now - interesting comment he has made about the laundering of Russian mafia money via UK banks now "being endemic". In 2003 The Economist worte a long piece about how the Russian mafia were laundering money via property in Spain. If they have done it in Spain then what about here in the UK? He also comments that Kim Philby was in line to become head of SIS even though he, Le Carre, would not have trusted Philby with his cat for the weekend. It appears that this was possibly his final T.V. interview. And yet Channel 4 News, have removed it from their 'Catch Up' Player. http://www.channel4.com/news/catch-up/ There is 18:57 of tonights news, but they have cut the Le Carre interview out. JustYield
re. money laundering for Russian oligarchs: JS: "How complicit do you think the British state is?" JLC: "I think at the financial level we go practically anywhere for money...[and don't care that it is stolen]... it seems we have drawn closer to Russia in disproportion to what a disagreeable country Russia is becoming. .... [buys them a ] great deal of hidden influence, particularly in the Upper House." JS: "Did you put people in danger?" JLC: "I'll pass on that." Great, the House of Lords has been bought. (For someone who supposedly guards his privacy, Channel 4 have given away the location of his house - less than 10 minutes on Google Earth to find it.) The Eagle
Great, the House of Lords has been bought. The crooks in parliament are dilettantes compared to those in the House of Lords, the latter do it for a lifetime (or even for generations), while the former often have only 5-10 years to take advantage of their position.
