Demo Trading Account

Recommended Posts

What sort of trading? GFT offer the Dealbook spread betting demo account with an iPhone app, but you'll have to supply a phone number and they'll call you repeatedly to try to get you to open an account. Which is fair enough - they're providing live data for you to play around on.

Have a good excuse ready if you're going to try it. Like "What, you mean I could lose money as well as make it?".

Thanks - was looking for fx trading. Is there a trial period before they stop the demo account?

Yes, from memory it was 1 month, before you have to shit or get off the pot.

Or you could try IGIndex - they allow you to place very small bets in the first 6 weeks, starting at 10p a pip and moving up to £1. Personally I prefer this because you're playing with real money; demo accounts are all well and good but emotionally it's totally different to the real thing. I have a limited loss account with IG, meaning the spreads are wide but I can't lose more than my deposit. So I have to spend more time looking at trades in order to make the spread worthwhile - which is good practice anyway.

I suppose it depends if you're betting a few quid for entertainment or your life savings in the hope of getting rich.
