Revisionista Tax Increase

Recommended Posts

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/consumertips/tax/7981144/PAYE-tax-errors-force-1.5-million-people-to-repay-1400.html

In total almost six million people have been affected by the fiasco, with 4.3 million people receiving a rebate because of overpayments.

The errors were discovered after a trawl by the Treasury of the way HM Revenue and Customs was calculating pay as you earn (PAYE) tax.

Yeah right an error... now what did Injin say about taxes? That they are inflationary... :P

I saw this. I am not sure it will impact me this year, though I have thoroughly confused the tax man by changing jobs 3 times and have having a second minor side  line that also attracts tax - so knowing my luck I'll be up for an even bigger bill.

Can't be sure, but it looks as if this won't affect people on self-assessment. I'd guess with that many jobs you'd be on SA, right? If not, it's no wonder there were lots of errors!

Come to think of it, they've repeatedly tried to take me off SA and onto just carrying across previous figures. I could see that was going to be Very Bad, so kept on with SA.

I have a horrible feeling.....

I always do a quick check in case they owe me so I have to ask for a tax return. I changed jobs with a few months break between and got a big credit back through PAYE on my new one.

My rate should have then gone up to claw it back but it didn't. I think they're going to be asking for about two grand. Nadgers.
