AP: Contractors shot by police

Police shot eight people carrying guns on a New Orleans bridge Sunday, killing five or six, The Associated Press reported.

A spokesman for the Army Corps of Engineers told AP that the people shot were some of its contractors on their way to repair a canal. The contractors were walking across a bridge on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to fix the 17th Street Canal, said John Hall, a spokesman for the Corps.

Earlier Sunday, New Orleans Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley told the AP that police shot at eight people, killing five or six. The shootings took place on the Danziger Bridge, which spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

No other details were immediately available.

Stick a fork in America, it's done.

Hmm, because innocent people never get shot by police in any other country do they

I think the other "you've got to be kidding" has to be the fact that you chose to post this topic in the main forum on house prices after all that has been going on. Be good to keep this stuff in off-topic from now on where it belongs, don't you think?

Take that pole out of your a$$ spunkbottle, and realise the relevance of American news to the UK.

Don't imagine that 'UK house prices' exist in some kind of vacuum.

i guess a tard like you has trouble getting 'the helicopter view'.

Whatever.

K thanx, bye.

Obviously the US economy has an influence in UK house prices, but this specific bit of news is going to have no measurable effect.

If we go down to this level of detail you could argue that every single web page ever written has some obscure relevance to UK house prices. If we filled the main discussion of house prices with that it would make for a $hit website. Mind you if turning this website into a pile of $hit seems like an achievement in your little world, give yourself a pat on the back.

Either that or try behaving like an adult, and get over it.

Thanks Consa, much appreciated.

This is kind of irrelevant, but FWIW (and now we are in the off topic forum anyway!), the original story quoted by Withnail was an error by AP. See CNN Story

Report: Police shoot gunmen

In New Orleans, police shot and killed at least five people Sunday after gunmen opened fire on contractors crossing a bridge to make levee repairs, The Associated Press reported.

Deputy Police Chief W.J. Riley told the AP that police shot at eight people who had guns, killing five or six.

The Army Corps of Engineers told AP that 14 contractors escorted by police were fired upon while crossing the Danziger Bridge, which spans a canal connecting Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River.

Corps spokesman John Hall told AP the contractors were on their way to launch barges into Lake Pontchartrain to help fix a breach in the 17th Street Canal.

Initial AP reports had wrongly indicated that the contractors themselves were shot by police.

At the 17th Street Canal, crews worked to close a 500-foot breach of a levee that allowed Lake Pontchartrain to flood parts of New Orleans.

But that breach and another on the London Canal were being left open because water was draining back into the lake. Officials said that once they can get the New Orleans pumping stations running it will take at least 36 days to drain the city.
