Any Drummers Out There?

Recommended Posts

This is the top ten list for the last 25 years:

01. Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Rob Zombie)

02. Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)

03. Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree)

04. Neil Peart (Rush)

05. Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Them Crooked Vultures)

06. Travis Barker (Blink-182, Transplants)

07. Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden)

08. Vinnie Colaiuta (Frank Zappa, Sting, Jeff Beck)

09. Phil Collins (Genesis)

10. Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Chickenfoot)

Are these really technically the best or are they playing in bands that play complex stuff so allowing them to showcase their skills? I like Dream Theatre, Rush & Genesis so I'm not knocking the list but was wondering if it was voted for by people like me who couldn't tell a kettle drum from a bongo or whether it is genuinely the best ones.

Bloody Hell, all time number 6 - Travis Barker of Blink 182, it was only last night that I was watching this idiot at the Reading festival. I felt like putting my foot through the TV set, it would have probably harmonized with the sound he was making, something like a brick wall being hit with a rusty scaffold tube in the same spot over and over again.

Alright, drummers are a different breed, but so many of them don't understand that YOU DON'T HAVE TO HIT THE DRUMS AS HARD AS POSSIBLE ALL THE TIME!

A little subtlety goes a long way - Ringo Starr or Charlie Watts for example.

The drummer whose work you've heard most, if you own a pair of ears, is Hal Blaine. These polls always exclude the old school 'show me the chart and I'll do it in one take' session guys.

You forgot:

Jimmy Chamberlain: Smashing Pumpkins

Keith Moon: The Who

John Bonham: Led Zeppelin

Clem Cattini: Various

All the bomb when it comes to thwackin' the skins!
