Went to get watch repaired today and noticed the chap bought gold. Asked him if he had any coins in that he wanted to sell and he said he automatically scrapped em whatever the coin/condition. Asked to have a look at what he had in and out comes a big plastic bag full of scrap gold rings, necklaces etc... And a few coins. Offered to buy two Maples off him. Price he quoted was marginally (1-2%) under spot. Back there Tuesday to seal the deal hopefully. Anybody else experienced this? It seems loads of good investment coins could be getting scrapped if other gold buyers follow this practice.
