Gold Certificate

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I bought a small amount of bullion coins at Baird and co.

I was a bit surprised that those coins did not come with some official minting certificate or something. I know certifacates can be faked but still... Do you normally get any government certificate with your coins?

You get no certificate with standard bullion coins. In the case of sovereigns, they can easily be 100 years old, so why would you?

I might expect something for a special non-secondhand proof coin, but not for bullion coins.

Even if you buy bullion grade gold coins direct from the Royal Mint it will either come in a capsule in a cardboard sleeve with details about the coin or as a trade customer they will come in laminated plastic sheets, there will be no certificate, only a receipt.

It is easy to check the authenticity of a gold coin, by its dimensions, weight and quality of strike.

Some coin sellers may offer an authenticity certificate, but this is only a gimmick IMO and you will likely be paying an inflated price.

Rest assured, Baird & Co are a very reputable dealer and their integrity is second to none.
