Designer Shed -- Price Reduced To £1.35 Million

Recommended Posts

The description:

Houses of cutting edge design, construction and finish may be commonplace in the Home Counties, but for

Gloucestershire they still remain a rarerity. However The Pool House at Westonbirt is something different which has everything.

Extending to approximately 10,000 square feet of living space, the house will be a home of sheer indulgence.

The reality:

Why would anyone pay £1.35 million to live in this house (which isn't even finished)?

[flashback]

£1.35 million/month? Yeah, sounds like a fair price.

Oh, hang on. They converted the Italian Lire to Euros, at a rate of £2000 = €1. So that's €675/month. Can't complain.

Looking at the floor plan, it seems like the builder finished the shell and then realised that the entire design makes no sense. They've put 4 bedrooms upstairs, but there are no real windows, only sky lights with limited head room, and all of those are on one side of the building. They've put a pool, sauna, steam room and gym in the basement, but, again, no windows. The entire house is going to smell like mildew and chlorine because they won't be able to get enough air circulation downstairs. Even on the ground floor, there are only 2 tiny windows on the front side of the house that are visible from the living space -- otherwise there are no windows on three sides of the house. They're building a house in the country, and it's going to be a smelly, claustrophobic crate.

And they're trying to sell this half-built disaster! Almost makes me feel sorry for the EA. The blurb is a classic:

"This unusual but very striking house has a bold front facade which totally belies the luxury accommodation within"

that is, "Although the outside looks sh$t...."

Converted POW camp. We'll need more in the coming years.

Agreed. Or Police Barracks. It's close to the M4 so riot trucks can hit London or Wales OK
