We need to keep the masses occupied. The alternative is a mass riot and angry mobs roaming the streets. Offer the public 1 in 1,000,000 of becoming a star, and they'll keep quiet, a bit longer.

Its fixed from the start (although we already know that)..they use autotune on "acts" that the producers deem worthy of winning...

Surely footie viewing figures are a better guide. How more "sheeple" can you get that than* living your life vicariously?

Indeed. A culture with near-universal literacy has no need for football.

X-factor's alright. I have a job where I think and concentrate for 60 hours a week, what's wrong with watching some tele on a saturday night that isn't mentally stimulating?

And anyone who thinks it's really a talent show need to have a word with themselves. It's all about the 'journey'. Anyone who thinks that the likes of Alexandra Burke and Leona Lewis weren't already known to Cowell and Sony prior to their X-Factor audition is a numpty.

We went to a pub called the Flask Inn near to Robin Hoods Bay and had the misfortune of being condemned to the 'family room' (we had a 7 year old among our party). We then had to eat dinner to the background racket of x-factor that some teen girls kept turning up. I'll never go to that place again.

I'm a closet X-Factor fan. I like to shut down and watch people sing for an hour.

However, the sight of Geri Halliwell at any time is enough to make me do a Moat. On top of that the auto-tuning and Cheryl Tweedy trying to forget her past of aggravated racial assault and culture her role of National Treasure - this is beyond comment.
