Middle Class Could Be Forced To Pay For Things They Can Afford

Recommended Posts

MIDDLE class families face no longer being able to use child benefit to buy wine, it emerged last night.

Who will pay for this spoilt little ******* to make a total racket twice a week?

Ministers have spent two months searching desperately for ways to cut the UK's soaring welfare bill before finally realising they should just stop giving money to people who obviously don't need it.

A senior source said: "We looked into who would be adversely affected by scrapping the £87 a month child benefit for middle class families and realised pretty quickly that it was Oddbins and Majestic.

"We may as well have been paying them directly, so all people would have had to do was drop by once a month, show them a photo of a child and pick up their free case."

But Helen Archer, a woman who doesn't know what a job is from Grantham, said: "I use my child benefit for Oliver's trombone lessons. Two years and he's still absolutely ******ing shit. Thank Christ it's not my money."

And Emma Bradford, a part-time locum GP from York, added: "My £87 a month goes towards the accountant who is helping us avoid inheritance tax."

Meanwhile old people's charities have warned that scrapping the winter fuel payment for middle class pensioners could force them to burn their Bill Bryson collections in their garden chimeneas.

A spokeswoman for Old UK said: "Thanks to the recession the average middle class pensioner couple is already down to just 27 holidays a year. Many of them in Scotland.

"Removing the winter fuel payment will simply cause a vast bonfire of gentle, but keenly observed transatlantic humour, or force thousands of people to stay in Magaluf until early April."

Right on. Hit the boomer bashers where it hurts. :P

I almost had to pick my jaw off the floor light night when newsnight? interviewed some toothless old (middle class) hag going on about how middle class people should be entitled to the same benefits as the poor.

Logically, unless we keep borrowing indefinetly to fund welfare (itself just delaying), something even the most hardcore of keynesians would argue against (although enlightened demigods like miliband and balls might not) there will always be winners and losers when it comes to transfer payments.

Moments like that remind me that the UK isnt getting dumber, its always been dumb.

I have always subscribed to the idea of some sort of literacy test before you can vote. For a Chav woman, if you fail the test you can vote if you agree to be sterilized. Chav male becomes a eunoch. Soemthing along these lines.

Some progressive councils are already thinking this way.

Oo, oo, I know. How about - a subsidised flat for unemployed women/men with 1 or more kids, who agree to be sterilised.

Sounds expensive, but there are lots of empty flats right now and imagine the long term genetic, economic and cultural benefits...

But only giving free stuff to poor people would encourage those on the margins to become poor.

A better plan would be to give everyone access to basic essentials if they want them.

Two daily bowls of hearty vegetable soup (seasonal veg).

A daily bowl of pasta with olive oil / rice / bread and butter.

Fresh drinking water and sanitation.

A weekly portion of fish / meat / pulses.

Basic healthcare.

Access to open space.

Basic clothing and footwear.

Protection from predators.

Libraries.

Education.

If rich people wish to buy their own food and play golf, then they can.

horrible story, lots of unpleasant questions.

is forcing a woman like that to leave it at two such a bad thing?

who has the right to decide?

carrot has to be much better than stick. offer a good sum of money to people like that who already have multiple kids and who are prepared to be sterilised?

I heard a radio interview yesterday, where the middle class retired numpty suggested it was wrong for the government to remove any of the benefits for the generation as they had paid their taxes for this and it should all be sorted out later!!!!

F*cking incredulous. Basically, sod the younger generation, let them pick up the pieces from our lives of excess. Stuck to guns even when challenged about cost of housing for younger generation etc etc.

With jobs permanently being offshored to Asia I think a shrinking population would do the UK some good. All this stuff about needing a growing population for GDP growth is nonsense. Governments just want a growing population so they can keep growing government debt, personal debt and tax revenues just for them to waste and to avoid deflation. Well if deflation would destroy the economy right now then imagine what deflation would do if it's put off another decade.

The whole system is a joke, people like us who work for a living cannot afford to have children so instead we have to pay even more money to look after other people's children, the ones who live off benefits.

Then those children grow up and can't get a job because the government in all it's wisdom decided it's better to allow immigrants to come work here just so corporations can squeeze a little more profit, at the social cost to the taxpayer, as these no hope children already born into a disadvantage of having uninspiring parents will just become benefit claimants themselves and have children. Ad infinium.

We'll also see a wave of economic migrants from Ireland escaping a country with 900% debt to GDP to work in Britain.

In 20 years time when the government can no longer support the underclass you'll hear of illegal immigrants from the UK overstaying their visas in Asian countries while working illegally just to escape poverty in Britain.

A better plan would be to give everyone access to basic essentials if they want them.

The most basic essential is shelter yet we have much higher property and rental prices in Britain compared to America, and an order of magnitude higher than in countries like China and India.

The government essentially took away peoples ability to make a living who didn't have the skills to do a skilled job or be a businessman, then said don't worry we'll pay for your worthless existence, just don't riot or we'll stop paying.

And it's not like British people can go work abroad in Asia when the government DO finally stop paying, because most Asian countries already have enough cheap labour and don't need more people.

When the government can no longer afford to pay benefits to the life on benefit claimants they will put them all into concentration camps where they will work for the government for a basic existence.

I'm watching this on Iplayer, my jaw just dropped.

They could save £600m by increasing the winter fuel allowance age from 60 to 65.

Last time I checked, the retirement age was 65 for men, so why do they receive it at 60? The retirement age for women should also be raised to 65, equal opportunities! I completely agree that they need to means test child benefit and winter fuel allowance.

Miliband also reminded me why I hate Labour so much, are they all this stupid?

Not to mention women statistically live longer than men, which makes it even more unfair that they would retire earlier. Being a white male in the UK wouldn't give you good prospects, especially a young white male! Unless you had some intelligence about yourself.

I thought I was reading another Daily Mash story then until I saw the Mail logo.

Funny that people are saying the woman should have been allowed to try. A lot of people didn't like the results of Karen Matthews, who has learning difficulties, doing just that.

An article that raises a lot of important issues.

Similar to how Cuba works....

such an interesting place and living proof that capitalism is much closer to human nature than socialism!

On a day when several thousand of the 'younger generation' were clogging up the media with their whinging about not getting a University place despite barely being able to walk and talk at the same time, she was probably pi55ed off with the continual cr@p thrown at her generation about the young subsidising the old. 50% of school leavers going to university subsidised by taxpayers, wtf.,a fine example of the young subsidising the old NOT, along with hb, mortgage interest paid, child benefit, tax credits, IB,maternity benefits, council tax benefits, etc etc. Young subsidiosing the old, bllcks.

capitalism is much closer to human nature than socialism!

Do you charge your kids for their school clothes? Do you ask your friends to pay when you cook them dinner? Capitalism is for strangers, socialism is for people you have real connections to. Hunter gatherer societies generally don't use money within the tribe and allocate resources through negotiation. That is socialism. They trade with neighbouring groups. That is capitalism. The fact that our society is mainly capitalist is a reflection of the fact that we are constantly surrounded by strangers, not some deep insight into human nature.

This may be correct. Generation X (aged 29-40) and older Gen Y (aged 18-28) are robbing the younger generation by claiming child benefits most of them do not need. Its the war between the generations now Gen X vs. Gen Y. Or is it Gen X and late Gen Y vs. youngeer Gen Y?:blink::blink:

I keep reading on HPC that Boomers were born 1945 to 1965.

So, if Gen X are 29-40, Gen Y are 18-28 and Boomers are 45-65....how come X & Y have 10-11 year generational gaps while boomers have 20?

More importantly, what happened to 41-44 year olds .... or did the boomers steal them as well as everyone's future? :)

Most middle class people do not need this benefit - mostly because they cannot actually afford to have any children anyway.

If we are genuinely worried about people spending this money on rioja and camembert then why not give nappy vouchers? Oh, i know why, because then our peasant underclass wouldn't be able to spend it on fags and booze.

To be honest, I get this benefit, and would lose it if it was means tested. Sure, me and my mrs would get by without it, but it is the only tangible benefit we receive for the approx £35k in direct taxes we pay every year. Essentially it currently acts as the lubricant that prevents many people from feeling that they just get ******ed in the **** all day long by the government for doing the decent thing of actually having a job and trying to look after yourself.

They'll be rioting in the aisles at waitrose you know.
