Who Are The Italisised Wonders?

Ever been reading a thread and seen an poster's name italicised as if their post is about to appear. After reading three pages of thread, they are still there, italicised. Then you go post on or read some other threads and check back a bit later and there they are still there, italicised.

But often their post never actually turns up...

Why do you hang on a thread for so long, presumably formulating a post and then say, 'Eff it - it's not worth it'?

You know who you are...

You might, for example, hit "reply" just to grab the URL of a posted image ... then the forum software italicises you for a long time. Where's the problem?
