Local Paper - %4sale Vs. %4rent

Just trawled local paper - Beds area ...

A quick search reveals approx. 320 second hand houses for sale, and approx. 222 for rent. I know this is only a snapshot of properties in this area and in this paper - so not an accurate reflection.

BUT approx. 40% to rent? What is this telling me ...

Is it the time of year - pepole are not renting/selling? Too many BTL that they can't rent them? etc.etc.

Anyway, my question is, I have seen stats on monthly mortgage lending, price increas/decrease, etc. but are then any stats on new rentals taken each month compared with new rental properties coming on the market. This would then show the rental supply/demand is working/changing.
