Met fraud squad investigator jailed over multi-million pound mortgage scam A crooked fraud squad officer who masterminded a multi-million pound mortgage sting with the help of his brother and a solicitor's clerk was jailed for nearly six years today. Det Sgt Charles Overend, 47, a specialist fraud investigator with the Metropolitan Police, built up a buy-to-let empire during the property boom years. Of course had he run a large Scottish Bank that advanced such loans to gain commissions he'd have been left of scot-free and given a £700k PA pension.
