The Off Topic Referendum

Recommended Posts

I would put these questions on a referendum and would say yes to all of them.

What would you decide and why?

My Questions for a Referendum:-

1. Do you want alternative voting?

2. Should we execute Ian Huntley?

3. Should we execute Ian Brady?

4. Should the BBC become Pay Per View?

5. Should we stop accepting Asylum Seekers?

6. Should we pay MPs a basic wage and not allow any expenses whatsoever?

7. Should we keep the Royal Family?

My answers:

1. Yes, seems fair to me.

2. Yes, save the taxpayer money, waste of time keeping him alive.

3. Ditto.

4. Yes, forcing people to pay for the BBC at the threat of imprisonment is immoral.

5. We have enough of our own problems.

6. Yes. Sack all the people dealing with expenses, it is costing us more than when they were on the fiddle!

7. Yes, they bring in more money in tourism etc and from the crown estate.

1. Do you want alternative voting?

Do you mean the AV? Or an alternative to first past the post? I believe in proportional representation. What's the point in voting if your party won't get a say?

2. Should we execute Ian Huntley?

No. While individuals may wish to take someone else's life, educated society needs to set an example of restraint. The law needs to reflect this and stay as it is.

btw the "saving money" argument was destroyed long ago - it costs more money to exhaust the appeals process for someone on death row than it does to execute them.

3. Should we execute Ian Brady?

Ditto.

4. Should the BBC become Pay Per View?

BBC should have it's budget slashed to 20% and officially become a free state broadcaster. Many other countries have one and the BBC are already highly politicised.

5. Should we stop accepting Asylum Seekers?

No but it wouldn't be a problem if so many didn't head for Britain. Maybe a limit and then deporting immediately anyone else to France. Not sure what the solution is but there needs to be a way of spreading the load. It's ridiculous how many people come here via other countries that could easily take them. Does anyone (not including by air) actually come direct to Britain to claim asylum?

6. Should we pay MPs a basic wage and not allow any expenses whatsoever?

Basic + expenses BUT expenses are means tested. The richer you are, the less (or none) you get.

7. Should we keep the Royal Family?

Yes but phase them out. Make William's son/daughter the last one to reign. Symbolically, a royal family is indicative of subjugation. These are not values we want to promote regardless of whether or not we profit from them (is it all about money?).

I like your replies but as per 2 & 3 I wasn't planning on any further legal process, just the execution.

What would you decide and why?

My Questions for a Referendum:-

1. Do you want alternative voting? Depends upon the system proposed.

2. Should we execute Ian Huntley? No. To do so would be extraordinarily short sighted.

3. Should we execute Ian Brady? No. As above

4. Should the BBC become Pay Per View? No.

5. Should we stop accepting Asylum Seekers? No.

6. Should we pay MPs a basic wage and not allow any expenses whatsoever? Again, depends upon the specific nature of the proposal - it is far from a priority in my mind.

7. Should we keep the Royal Family? Yes.

Inline.

If ever a topic was crying out for a poll, this one certainly is. Anyway:

1. Do you want alternative voting?

Yes.

2. Should we execute Ian Huntley?

Yes.

3. Should we execute Ian Brady?

Yes.

4. Should the BBC become Pay Per View?

Yes.

5. Should we stop accepting Asylum Seekers?

Yes.

6. Should we pay MPs a basic wage and not allow any expenses whatsoever?

No.

7. Should we keep the Royal Family?

Yes.

They were easy. If scatter-gun and skating nicely over any debate.

All loaded questions.

Id ask only one.

Do you want live within the tax and spend state, or outside it?

I think I would want the police (with no pensions) and the armed forces (defence only) and nothing else.

Everyone for themselves pension wise. No NHS.

I agree morally with what Injin says but then see the human race as a bunch of monkies who want

to steal fruit off each other. Not having any pigs in charge of the farm I think would result in a more

poor quality of life. We are not much different to cattle.

I would make it the law that local government could only spend on what they were legally obliged too, if

they spent any more than what they legally had to I would make all the governors personally liable. Repo

their 5 bedroom houses, no private school for Felicity...

We could go all the way to survival of the fittest but I am not sure how much fun that would be.

Is that enough or do you want more?

1. Do you want alternative voting?

Not sure, I don't yet know enough about it. I know I want change though.

2. Should we execute Ian Huntley?

3. Should we execute Ian Brady?

No, I don't believe in the death penalty.

4. Should the BBC become Pay Per View?

They pretty much are already, but they should be subject to market forces without a guaranteed income.

5. Should we stop accepting Asylum Seekers?

No, but we should only accept those who declare themselves at the first safe country they arrive in. "Asylum seekers" is an almost redundant phrase, its so often used to mean immigrants generally.

6. Should we pay MPs a basic wage and not allow any expenses whatsoever?

No, a good wage and sensible expenses.

7. Should we keep the Royal Family?

Not on the public payroll and not with any political function whatsoever - not even symbolically.
