Things Looking Up In Ballycastle?

Recommended Posts

Mervyn McAllister says he's selling the Marine Hotel because the housebuilding has him fierce busy. This from his local paper a couple of months back http://www.ballymoneytimes.co.uk/general-business/Marine-Hotel-for-sale-39as.6351052.jp

This is some much needed good news for McAllister Holding, coming after a bad run: the Marine was refused planning permission for an expansion and even closed temporarily. Then there was the Aurora plans for Gt Victoria Street which also hit a planning hurdle - though the site is earning income as a car park and by hosting a hoarding which Michael Herbert can put silly ads on. The other main McAllister site in Belfast, opposite Ormeau Park, is also undeveloped.

Actually the various McAllister entities are all up-to-date on their filings, which is more than can be said for some. A Northern Bank mortgage, secured against the Marine Hotel, was registered on 5 May this year.

I remember reading it was shutting for a while. When exactly was this?

I also remember the apartments attached to the hotel were sold shortly after it changed owners. Must say I thought this was a pretty astute move. I remember staying in these many years ago. Similar heating system to the new Obel if I remember correctly.

...not to mention the terrible misfortune of having a terrace of Victorian buildings burnt to the ground on Quay Road: http://www.4ni.co.uk/northern_ireland_news.asp?id=69985
