Beautiful Pieces Of Music

Recommended Posts

Guest Ian Chesterton

I've posted "Forever Autumn" from Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds on the Aunt Jess thread, but the music for in Lord of the Rings is amazing:

Deeply mellow. (Worth watching for the colour footage of Britain in the twenties alone, Kate Bush aside.)

Good pick!

Yo-Yo Ma plays the prelude from Bach´s Cello Suite No. 1

Yours?

Another good pick. I'm learning to play that on guitar. Here's a version I really like.......

Most of Philip Glass's earlier stuff (Glassworks etc.), Mike Oldfield (again, earlier albums) and I like Kingding's choice from Gladiator. There's lots out there!

Edward Elgar, Enigma Variations, Nimrod.

Can't find it on Youtube but there's some vehicle recovery firm that put videos of them recovering various vehicle wrecks up,

Rather touchingly if the accident involved a fatality they use Nimrod as the backing track.

If no-one died in the accident they use Cotton Eye Joe. I think anyone would have to agree a more tasteless and jarring juxtaposition would be hard to devise.

Of dear, so wish I hadn't found this, now on the third play at over 4 mins.

Many will view this as heresy but may I suggest this is an improvement on The Smiths original.

A lot of these tracks are a bit depressing like 'The Noah Takes A Picture' soundtrack and several others, seem best suited for a soundftrack for a speeded up film of a plant germinating, flowering and dying.

Then I found this, utterly terrifying how time just disappears.

Ferris Bueller's middle-aged and working for 'the man' :(
