Just seen this website, http://www.thebigsociety.co.uk/

Can't tell if it is some kind of genuine grassroots movement for ositive change, or a cynical establishment ***** fest

Anyone here have any more info?

I have just been discussing with a friend what opportunities there could be.

However, if it is basically public sector outsourcing the main problem will be the usual suspects farming work out to their mates/friends, etc.

The belief in the existence of brown paper envelope stuffed with cash, whether it is true or not, is always at the back of most people's minds when they go into dealing with the public sector.

I can see business opportunities in some of what Cameron talked about yesterday but, at grass routes in my part of the world, I doubt I would have even a sniff of those opportunities.

TBRH, when I first read this I thought they were referring to doing something about our record levels of obesity.

"Big" seems to be the PC word these days now that you can't call someone a Fatty or Lardarse (as on Little Britain).

The Big Society.

Sort this shit out yourselves, cos we ain't got the cash.

They can't afford to get in your way, so they are pretending they don't actually want to.

The basic run of this will be - taxes static/up - services down - but please, blame your local councillors.

I see they've abbreviated the Big Society Network to BSN.

B*ll Sh*t Network

Talk is cheap - hence it's early popularity.

Linking this to house prices, one of the reasons society is failing is because you need to have two good incomes to put a roof over your head. Just exactly how much 'spare time' is out there?

Maybe they're expecting massive unemployment and this will be seen as a way for keeping busy and adding benefit to the community.

You know where I'm going with this...

Let house prices fall, get it back to one reasonable salary being required to own a home, the people will then have some spare time to put to community projects.

Couldn't you spend the time you do on here helping your 'community' instead?

The basic run of this will be - taxes static/up - services down - but please, blame your local councillors.

And most of all - blame yourself for not volunteering enough. After all its so much better to donate all of your time for no return than have govt tax a only a percentage of what that time can earn you.

As well as helping you get things done as an individual, we also want to help you meet up with other people in your area with the aim of discussing what you want to share and change together in order to make your neighbourhood stronger, safer and more enjoyable.

Our aim is to not only create the largest co-operative or mutual in Britain, but to create a mutual that is Britain. Every citizen can be a shareholder, contribute, receive help and rewards.

This individual has met the other people in his area and observes that some are mindless nimby t@ssers who believe involvement in local democracy means getting their own way overothers. The idea of any 'big society' letting such folk loose on anything or anybody has to be a bad idea.

The idea of the largest cooperative in Britain sounds so wonderful. Lets all share and enjoy.

"Share and Enjoy" is, of course, the company motto of the hugely successful Sirius Cybernetics Corporation Complaints division, which now covers the major land masses of three medium sized planets and is the only part of the Corporation to have shown a consistent profit in recent years.

The motto stands - or rather stood - in three mile high illuminated letters near the Complaints Department spaceport on Eadrax - "Share and Enjoy". Unfortunately its weight was such that shortly after it was erected, the ground beneath the letters caved in and they dropped for nearly half their length through the underground offices of many talented young complaints executives - now deceased. The protruding upper halves of the letters now appear, in the local language, to read "Go stick your head in a pig", and are no longer illuminated, except at times of special celebration.

At these times of special celebration a choir of over two million robots sing the company song "Share and Enjoy". Unfortunately - again - another of the computing errors for which the company is justly famous means that the robot's voices are exactly a flattened fifth out of tune and the result sounds something like this, only slightly worse.

The lyrics to the company song are as follows:

Share and Enjoy

Share and Enjoy

Journey through life

With a plastic boy

Or Girl by your side

Let your pal be your guide

And when it breaks down

Or starts to annoy

Or grinds when it moves

And gives you no joy

Cos it's eaten your hat

Or had sex with your cat

Bled oil on your floor

Or ripped off your door

You get to the point

You can't stand any more

Bring it to us, we won't give a fig

We'll tell you, 'Go stick your head in a pig'.

What it basically means is, you'll pay more tax but get fewer services.

Yes

Heard Cameron spouting yesterday about charities taking up the work that the state used to do .

Also was told yesterday that young people have to do 25 hours a week voluntary work to get their JSA , works out at being paid about 50p an hour.

So the unemployed young are going to be working for JSA to provided the services that we pay our taxes to get.

Its a CON

Makes you laugh. The Tories have spent years deriding and undermining our most effective mutual societies, the Unions.

Nor have they been friends of the Co-operative Movement.

I notice that 'Red Tory' Phillip Blond is being marginalised so that Dave's message is not sullied.

The Big Society is a con, what the Westminster srowd do not want is to give people any power, ever. Just pick up the s*** and the tab.

it's just about money - the public sector have been paid very large salaries lately - as well as the chaitable sector funded by taxpayers replete with company cars and stuff - to supervise our lives, when historically that's what neighbours did, for a lot less wonga

It's not a great big step from there to outright slavery.

Damn it! If only we had put our faith in the Labour Party for another term, they'd have us out of this pickle by now.
