Morning all

Did anyone plan to travel this year with Monster Travel? No more I am afraid, another travel industry victim, this time with a high profile due to the catchy name and low prices of hols. No doubt some canny fraudster will rapidly relaunch this company as a phantom website, to harvest card details etc before word spreads (fear of fraud is also hurting smaller operators and - I think - keeping high street agents alive):

Monster Travel ceases trading

Jul 16, 2010 08:25

Newcastle travel agency Monster Travel has ceased trading.

The call centre and homeworking company was set up in April 2008 by David Hawke and Julie Gilmore. Hawke come from Hays Travel and was previously head of direct sales for Thomson Holidays.

The company employed 94 staff, and was a member of the Freedom Travel Group, using its bond to dynamically package holidays as well as selling standard packages.

Jane Atkins, managing director of the Freedom Travel Group, said: "We are very disappointed and saddened that Monster Travel are no longer in a position to trade, but we will take on all forward bookings, ensuring that customers travel as planned and that trade suppliers are paid."

More to follow.
