I used to like a (very) large Malibu after work. Couldn't really manage without it. Bit sad really. Then one day about 8 years ago, completely out of the blue, I found didn't enjoy it, I didn't want it, poured it down the sink, haven't had more than a Christmas drink since. Very odd. I miss it a bit. However, I guess my liver, which is over 60 like the rest of me, is probably grateful. I don't suppose this is helpful to the OP, I seem to be recommending that you wait to grow out of your liking for wine.

Good for you! I do worry about my liver, but only take it with soda water. Seriously must think about cutting back.... :huh:

I was worried about my alcohol intake so I replaced it with a much less damaging relaxant. Worked a treat so far (since January).

I 'grew out' of my really bad hay fever at 40 too - I guess getting older has some advantages. I wish you success with the cutting back PP, could you take up a different vice instead, one that doesn't clobber your liver so much?

I only drink to excess.

If I find myself drinking every night I consciously wind it in; had zero four nights this week as I'd drunk every night last week. I don't get drunk (maybe half a dozen times a year if that) and always fine to drive the next morning, but when it's that frequent I can't honestly say I'm enjoying it.

I've pretty much given up on the booze with my medical problems this last year - I just cant cope with it now. That said, I've just spent an hour and a half in the garden fettling my two best bikes (the ones worth more than my car) and have rewarded myself with a glass of cider.

Being an alcoholic is, I believe, typically a matter of dependancy not volume (unless you're actually killing yourself). If you could go on the wagon today for a month with no problems, physical or psychological, then you probably arent dependant.

Neither do I, nor do I smoke, need to be sober and healthy for the revolution.

:ph34r::ph34r:

I still smoke cigarettes, it's an issue. Return to Blighty will see that end due to the cost.

You must keep at least one vice otherwise you'll officially become a boring *******.

I was just wondering as I can only think of one person I know who doesn't drink at all. Only one! Perhaps I'm mixing in the wrong circles..... :ph34r:

I drink maybe 4 times a week, but only get drunk maybe 3 times a year when I go to Amsterdam.

2 or 3 bottles of lager a few times a week and I'm content.
