Mr Huhne, 55, an Oxford-educated former journalist and economist, made a small fortune in the City before entering politics.
He is one of Parliament's wealthiest MPs, worth an estimated £3.5million and with a
property portfolio of seven homes.

We know the Blairs hold a substantial portfolio of properties. Do we know how many homes other MPs have in their portfolios and is the information available under rules of disclosure? It would be a fascinating list to see. Little wonder they all fight tooth and nail to keep the bubble going.

I was thinking something similar. If there was a way to track how many properties various MPs have hoarded, especially cabinet members, then perhaps we can also monitor if they start trying to offload them.

that would be a good indicator for anyone who believes they are going to have to carefully deflate the bubble. perhaps they know what we don't and will sell up before prices drop

freedom of information act ?

Many have built property portfolios at taxpayer expense. That's now been stopped (more or less) for new MPs, so the winding down of that particular vested interest should be a long-term effect as former MPs gradually leave the system.

The independently-rich are another story. Maybe there are some whose wealth is based primarily on things other than property, and whose personal vested interests would favour the real economy.

That shows their interests.

But presumably they don't have to show their wives portfolios.

Can anyone with the time prepare a chart with MPs names and their portfolios. Might be good for the press to publish--amazed the DT haven't done it. Maybe too much VI among the editors and journos.

But the ease at which they can cover up investments by putting their portfolios in the names of a spouse may render the data useless. IMO, all property held by the MP and immediate family should be disclosed. Nepotism must be rife at all levels in the MP business.
