How Do You Move?

Recommended Posts

We're looking to rent something a bit bigger than our current place, but the nicest properties are often snapped up pretty quickly.

We need to give two months notice on our current place, but, realistically, we can't expect a new place to necessarily be available "in two months time"*

So, what to do? Hand in notice and just hope a decent property comes up in the two months? How have others handled this? We have two kids, so need to stay pretty close for schools, etc., so it's not like we have a huge degree of flexibility.

I don't mind, in theory, renting two places for a few weeks - even a month would be bearable - but this doesn't really help...

* obviously, and for obvious reasons, there are exceptions to this

Why do you think you have to give two month's notice? Are you paying more than £25K pa rent so not an AST? Otherwise one month, whatever your agreement says, unless it's a fixed term that you are coming to the end of.

Ah - you're quite right. I've just re-read the contract. There's a two-month termination notice period for termination of the contract, but only one month for terminating tenancy... Many thanks
