Conservative Promise For Moral Behaviour Goes South!

Recommended Posts

I thought I would be the first to start the list of MP's misdemeanors starting with our local Conservative MP Caroline Nokes.

What was the conservative promise for moral behaviour?

"Earlier this year, she was one of the parliamentary candidates who signed a pledge that they would 'respect, uphold and protect the right of Christians to hold and express Christian beliefs and act according to Christian conscience'.

It was produced by Christians together with their Westminster 2010 Declaration of Christian Conscience before the election.

A clause on marriage in the declaration states: 'We pledge to support marriage - the lifelong covenantal union of one man and one woman as husband and wife. We believe it is divinely ordained, the only context for sexual intercourse.'"

I haven't corrected the spelling mistake.

I couldn't find a lot of information on which parties the other candidates belonged to. Feel free to change "Conservative" to "politician".

Whenever politicians go on about family values, "back to basics" etc., they're making a rod for their own backs.*

* In some cases, this is what they really like, e.g. Harvey Proctor.

Still, if you want to burgle Huhne's house.....

When she arrived at his constituency home in Eastleigh on Friday evening to celebrate her 44th birthday, she let herself in with a key hidden under a stone. Huhne arrived half an hour later.

That kind of religious nonsense damns her in my eyes even without the shagging.

Get your facts straight.

CANDIDATES HAD WESTMINSTER-LITE

General Election candidates were sent a slimmed-down version of the Declaration, isolating Christian liberties....

The Westminster 2010 organisers say: 'We did not ask candidates to sign the Westminster declaration itself, but only to make the pledge to "respect, uphold and protect the right of Christians to hold and express Christian beliefs and act according to Christian conscience".

She never signed it. (See my previous post.)

What a wally you must feel when you don't bother to check the facts.

Amen to that.

And you're the bigger wally 'cos you posted that after my first post!

Was that declaration anything to do with those fundamentalist loonies you linked to (Christian Voice?). What a bunch of mentalists.

A fair few committed christian politicians (seemingly this Cameron cutie can't be counted amongst their number) refused to sign this pledge either, I can imagine most would at least view the Westminster Lite version as too strongly connected to the full strength version, and thought it might be viewed as tacit endorsement of it; a lot of leading christian groups were critical of it too.

In any case the whole thing stinks of US style christian lobbying of MP's imo.

Your diversionary ad hominem emotionalism tells a story.

I've no idea of any connection; but if you think defending religious liberty is mentalist, you've really got problems.

Ever hear of Voltaire

and thought it might be viewed as tacit endorsement of it

Why? MPs vote all the time on various 'graded' versions of bills and clauses

a lot of leading christian groups were critical of it too.

I apologize, you are quite correct! it does quite clearly state the candidates signed a pledge to uphold a 2nd pledge which they themselves did not actually sign and to which I erroneously referred to.

In future I will pay more attention to the articles I am reading and less attention to the Motorcycle auction that was ending at the same time.

So in conclusion the Conservative MP Caroline Nokes has no moral behavior to live up to!

I was referring to your link explaining the pledge and it does certainly appear they were involved in lobbying support for the declaration.

but if you think defending religious liberty is mentalist, you've really got problems.

Of course I don't but equally I think any organisation (like the one you linked to) that states that rape isn't possible between husband and wife as wedding vows give binding consent to sexual intercourse under all circumstances, that supports Uganda's death penalty for homosexuality, has called for all UK laws to be based on scripture and called Marie Stope's staff death squads carrying out a holocaust is mentalist tho.

Source?

MP Alistair Burt, Tory MP and former Chair of Christians in Public wouldn't sign it and said it gave the impression of "some elements of the Christian Church more as a lobby group than as people of faith" (much like I said earlier in this thread).

Former Financial Secretary to the Treasury and member of the Christian Socialist Movement, Stephen Timms refused to sign it also, as in fact did over 90% of politicians (One of the exceptions being the adultress in the OP), and rightly so in my opinion.

Source?

The Christian Socialist Movement, the Conservative Christian Fellowship and the Liberal Democrat Christian Forum banded together to criticise it for a start, saying it "marginalises, once again, Christian engagement in politics" and risks "reducing the scope of salt and light to just a narrow range of issues"

Faithworks, an extremely influential 22,000 strong ministry said

The Westminster 2010 Declaration sets Christians up on a moral high ground and implicitly creates divisiveness. It does this at just the time when the church’s morality has been called into question across the world.

The cross party group Christians in Politics said there was

Much to question about its timing, depth and tone

It has also been inevitably hampered by the lack of consultation with Christian Parliamentarians and the main Christian groups involved in praying and serving with our political infrastructure

I'm sure I could find a good few more if I could be arsed

Do you believe in free political expression or don't you?

I absolutely 100% believe in Free Speech, just as much as I believe in the total seperation of politics and religion.

Tony Blair and George Bush were committed christians, just look at well that worked out for us........

Only in very elite circles.

Anyway, back to what matters:

Mr Dinsdale lives with his parents in a £450,000 house in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk...

Meh.. the daily mail taking a cheap shot at a Tory MP.

So she cheated on her husband.. big deal. He obviously isn't that bothered as they are still together. Maybe he can't perform any more and is happy for her to have a bit on the side.

Whatever the case I don't see it's particularly any of the Mail's business.. they're probably just bitter that their little campaign on CGT doesn't seem to be working.

Bunch of children

I have to say this is one area I've never given a toss about - whether or not it was labour (they had their equal share of extra-marital shaggers if you go and do some counting), tory, lib-dem or other. The only time I think the press should waste column inches on this is when it's funny. E.g. Prescott humping his secretary across his desk, John Major and the egg-lady, that kind of thing.
