CGT: house price recovery will end, estate agents say

Harry "Wah--lup!"Wallop, 9:34, Tuesday 15 June 2010
The recent recovery in house prices could be reversed if rates of capital gains tax are increased, leading members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors have warned.
Some owners of second homes and buy-to-let investors could sell, while the proposed changes might deter many potential purchasers from investing in property, the estate agents have warn.

And that is bad news?

I just found out that you can support the CGT rise here:

Fight the telegraph spin!

PETITION TEXT:
Dear George Osborne,
Please stick to your commitment in the Coalition Agreement by increasing Capital Gains Tax to rates similar to income tax by:
making the top level of Capital Gains Tax the same as income tax
reducing the level at which people have to start paying tax on money earned from investments like stocks and shares, and second homes

I didn't sign as I believe BTL is a scourge and second home owners can and should pay more tax when they sell.
