I Enjoyed Myself Today - Winding Up A

Recommended Posts

:D

This guy came in today to fix the photocopier. I had photocopied an article from this website about House Prices going down. He came over the my desk, it soon became obvious he was a recent buy-to-let landlord.

HIM: Where did this article come from ?

ME: HOUSEPRICE CRASH.CO.UK -its this excellent site about how there is

going to be a house price crash.

HIM: RUBBISH ! House prices won't fall.

ME: They are already falling !!

HIM: Well, they may fall a little but they will pick up in the autumn.

ME: How Come ?

HIM: Cos they always pick up in the spring/autumn !

ME: Well, they didn't last SPRING !

He then went on to tell me he was rampantly buying up propertys and had been for the last couple years, then when he had made enough money he was going to give up his job, his wife and son were looking after the 'business' so far.

ME: Are you insane ? House prices WILL GO DOWN.

HIM: WHY?

ME: Cos every bugger who could afford to buy has bought! THERE IS NO-ONE

LEFT !

HIM: Oh Well, I am OK cos I have already bought mine and am renting them

out - better for me more people to rent to.

ME: Doesn't that make you feel bad that you are buyingup all the FTB

Property and then renting it back to them.

HIM: Well that's business I suppose isn't it ?

ME: Well think about this then, you had better hang onto them for a long

time cos they will lose a lot of money over the next few years!

HIM: The EA told me now is a very good time to buy.

ME: And you believed someone, who of course has not got a 'vested interest'

in the market. You are very niaive! Do you not remember the 90's

crash ?

HIM: That was caused by different things ..........

as he started to reel of the list of things which supposedly caused the

90's crash i beat him to it and reeled them off before he could get the

words out - He looked amazed that a WOMAN could have such an

understanding of the housing market ! (Of course its' only cos I

read what all you clever guys have written over the last couple years).

ME: You can say all the reasons in the world for the last house crash but

the main reason for it was sentiment changed and that is exactly

the reason it is gonna happen this time !

HIM: So, this HPC UK you reckon they know what they are talking about.

ME: yes, You should take a look ? There are some very clever people

on there - some have sold their homes to rent they are so convinced

that prices are going down.

HIM: BLIMEY ! They must be sure.

He then asked me for the web address, but still continued to bleat on about how

prices will 'bounce back'.

I left him with one thought.

ME: I must admit i would not want to be in your shoes....... if I were you

I would sell up (if you can) and make a profit (if you can) while you still

can. :lol::lol::lol:

He then sloped off looking very worried.........:lol:

"That's business I suppose"

Yes, the typical 'pragmatism' of the person on the winning side of a shafting. I bet he won't be so pragmatic when he realises his 'investments' are crumbling around him.

No sympathy AT ALL. Well done for telling him like it is. And don't take any sexist ******** about women not being able to understand the situation.

"THAT'S BUSINESS I SUPPOSE".....HMMM

I WONDER IF HE LIKES BEING ON THE RECEIVING END OF "BUSINESS",WHERE THE VULTURES CIRCLE AND PICK OVER THE BITS OF A DISTRESSED ENTITY.

...because that also happens in business, mergers, aquisitions, hostile takeovers...that kinda thing....even a bit of industrial espionage to get a competitive edge.

I hope he retains all that dignity when the likes of us are picking up our fare from the BTL's in distress...if not, well I'm afraid that's just...well....BUSINESS(and tough titty!)

This illustrates an almost universal mentaility. Even reasonably intelligent people are hanging on to these myths:

1. Prices always go up.

2. I took out a massive loan and bought a few props: that means I am running a "business" (Delusions that a business=buying up somewhere on 100% mortgage)

3. No concept whatsever of the impact of lots of little people like this all doing the same thing.

4. Belief in the fantasy that doing no work at all can result in perpetual profits.

5. No grasp at all of the social implications of what you are doing.

6. Assumption that wealth can be created out of magic.

7. Assumption that everyone else will play the game for ever.

8. Misundertanding of the most basic economic principles.

9. Belief of all the hype without ever questioning it, and total lack of discernment or curiosity about the consequences of speculating.

You can't really feel sorry for these kind of people, because in the end they do even more damage to others than they do to themselves.

This is the politics of never never land. When will they realise this is a children's fairy story?

Sounds like a romancer, dreamer, and Walter Mitty to me with illusions of grandeur. <_<
