Dozens Of Teenage Girls Have Had Three Abortions Or More

Recommended Posts

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/women_shealth/7823317/Dozens-of-teenage-girls-have-had-three-abortions-or-more.html

Government data have disclosed that 89 girls aged 17 or under who terminated a pregnancy last year had had at least two abortions previously.

The head of Britain’s largest abortion provider said many young women were living chaotic lives that meant they could not organise contraception.

Christian doctors said the statistics demonstrated the failure of liberal sex education policies.

The Department of Health figures for 2009 show that, for the first time, more than a third (34 per cent) of abortions were performed on women who had already ended one or more pregnancies.

Across all ages, more than 1,000 women or girls were on at least their fifth termination, including 214 on their sixth, 70 on their seventh and 48 who underwent the procedure for at least the eighth time.

Ann Furedi, the chief executive of the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, said repeated pregnancies among teenage girls were often caused by chaotic lifestyles and difficulties they had in using contraception.

She said: “With teenage girls, often they feel able to handle sex, emotionally and physically, yet aren’t able to handle the planning that comes with contraception.”

Dr Peter Saunders, from the Christian Medical Fellowship, which represents Christian doctors, said that the figures were profoundly depressing. “It is increasingly clear that abortion is simply being used as a form of contraception by a growing percentage of girls and women, and that tired policies of values-free sex education, condoms and morning-after pills are not working,” he said.

I would like to know in which areas these girls are from. Surely if they where from sink estates they'd have kept the babies and live in a council flat....

You can't draw any conclusions from this data until you know more about the girls do they come from troubled backgrounds?

OMG.

I don't know why I'm so shocked though. The idea of abortion adverts on TV is pretty surreal unless there's a reason to promote it.

Horrid. And they should be sterilised after the second.

Condoms could be given out in schools free. And after the first million were turned into balloons they might start using them.

FFS. These people would also argue against such eduation at all. The reality is that is has nothing to do with the education, youngsters were plenty knowledgeable enough long before such education was introduced.

Maybe if church wasn't so mindnumbingly dull then the kids would go to mass instead of breeding like rabbits....

most likely to do with the lack of education and poor homelife. These girls are probably craving attention.

In France people have sex education from the age of 11. They don't have the same problems as we do.

If we sterilised them before they reach reproductive age, it would solve the housing problem and overpopulation at a stroke. What about it, DC?

Edit: spelling

3 strikes and you're out should be the rule. The third should result in sterilisation (of the child and the child's parents).

I think some positives should be drawn from this- it shows that young females are at least gettign lots of sex, and as we know, sex is healthy and releases endorphins into the blood stream, instilling a sense of vibrancy and well being into the individual.

89, although 89 too many, is a tiny number compared to the amount of teenage girls in the country.

A lot of girls rely on the Morning After Pill as their number one contraceptive!

Ask any pharmacist.

That stops the egg being released so it can't be fertilised doesn't it? Don't know what sort of damage it can do to a woman in the long term. Nice little earner for pharma companies I guess though.

Perhaps a positive result of our youth growing up exposed to hardcore porn on phones and computers from as soon as they can type will be that they'll all think the external money shot is how it's done which will be very helpful for keeping down pregnancies.

So why have the "education"? Simple stuff.

Not always. If the egg has already been fertilised then the MAP stops it from implanting into the womb. Like the coil. That's why these methods can be considered abortionist if you believe that life begins at conception. Most of the girls taking the MAP probably don't realise this. But legally pregnancy starts when the fertilised egg is implanted into the womb, unless it's an ectopic pregnancy.

The girls should have the babies and the 'fathers' (identified through DNA testing) should be forced to pay for them (not the state). That would slow things down amazingly and bring a bit of awareness to what they are actually doing. Then they would all have a tremendous amount of wisdom to pass on to the next generation (after an intensely painful learning experience).

No access to abortions: that worked just dandy in the past. Just look how few children the Victorians had and how few of them lived in poverty. Perhaps if they'd closed all the work houses, they would have had to have stand on their own two feet. Without that back up they'd have had wisdom to pass from mother to daughter.

The chapter in Freakonomics is interesting, where they trace the drop in US crime rate to a point 16 years prior when abortion was legalised. Seems that the typical person seeking a termination isn't too keen on having a kid and so doesn't make the best mother... so forcing mothers to have their unwanted children would lead to more potential mothers (due to lower socioeconomic group, poorer education, no access to private abortion, drug use etc) who are then forced to have more children they don't want and so on.

I was under the illusion abortion wasnt the nicecest of procedures.

Guess i was wrong.

Lots of levels of un-niceness in many way, but broadly it depends, early or late.

There are all sorts of differences with how we live now and how things were in Victorian times. I was really pointing out that men would be alot more careful where they put their 'winkie' if they truly shared the same potential consequences as women. It is wrong that a man can walk away from an evening of 'fun' without any consequences and the poor girl has to face the psychological/emotional trauma of an abortion or the economic/social trauma of raising a child alone. You are assuming that abortion is a painfree simple process - I think many women would agree with me that it isn't. When you are pregnant all sorts of protective instincts kick in that abortion violates.
