Dumbing Down

It's all very well taking the piss but I think the least you can do is reply and explain why you're not interested.

Regardless I would think this is more an indictment of the schools than university, if they can't write correctly by the time they're at uni do you really expect any of their lecturers to take the time to help them with spelling? I certainly wouldn't have the patience

As one who works 'in an arty profession' when people are paying you lots of money; attention to detail, including spelling and grammar are of paramount importance.

The use of language to describe and communicate concepts is a pretty important part of any 'creative media' these days.

I once had the director of a 'creative media company' phone me up to apologise for a spelling mistake in an email he had been CC on sent to me by one of his employees. (It wasn't an error in the work, the employee had just spelt principal principle).

That email reads as if English is the person's second language, it sounds more like it came from someone in India trying to get business.

If they can't spell, should they be accepted at uni in the first place?
