Sledgehead
10-1 against this poster being a gayer or a bird. 20-1 against this poster being a cliche PS : Fabio's Mum was quoted as saying "I must be the only Italian who wants England to win." My question to her : "You do mean besides your son?" Maybe we should conduct an investigation as to whether any curly-haired, pugnacious looking guys, speaking broken english have been placing bets against England in S. Africa's betting shops? I was just trying to work out a price for you being scottish. I'm surprised ccc didn't recognise the Hampden Yawn the thing is getting up here. Forget who it was, maybes Pat Nevin, said a couple of days back "You've got more chance of seeing hungarian basketball on the telly in a Glasgow pub, than Saturday's gemme". Sledgehead
Just a bloke who thinks football is pointless and boring. I watched it and was neither. However, they do seem fond of repeating it. Hardly a week goes by when they don't. It's worse than Only Fools & Horses at xmas. If it's that popular why don't they make a sequel? Football 2. Add some special effects, cgi, or whatever. Makes you wonder where the licence fee goes eh?

6538
I was just kidding ya raj. Yeah, I know. I know football is pointless. It can be interesting though. Maybe. Reasonbs I don't like it though; Footballers (the professional ones anyway) are mostly dicks; Too many people who follow football take it way too seriously, sorry but it's not a matter of life and death and isn't worth fighting over; It's anti-social - ever been in a pub when there's a match on? No one interacts with anyone else and just gawp at the telly; Footballers are mostly dicks. Football is not a matter of "national pride", it just isn't. It's a game not a military campaign. Would agree with most of the above apart from the bold. Football in the pub with a bunch of mates is amazing. It cannot be explained. It makes things worth doing. Sledgehead
If you consider it pointless and boring, why do you feel the need to comment on it? Because it's pointless, boring and filling up the TV schedule? Because it's pointless, boring and filling up conversations? Surely, if something pointless and boring intruded into parts of your entertainment & socila life you'd coment on it, no?
Sledgehead
Male bonding - but not in a gay fashion... Ah, but you can't be sure cos the stigma would be so great no footie fan would ever admit it. Tell me I'm wrong.

No not really, people talk about lots of things I consider pointless and boring, I tend to not bother commenting on them and pay attention to the stuff I find interesting. But maybe that's just me. I just find it really odd that people who consider something boring feel the need to be so vocal about it. If you hated it with a passion, that would be an opinion, but boring, why bother. Seriously. Unless it's irony.

Was in a pub several months back, I live near Newcastle and there was a Newcastle match on the telly. Everyone was fixated on the TV and there was virtually no interaction between people. Half time and people started chatting and being social towards each other. Next half was a repeat if of the first. Another thing which annoys me about football; this use of the word "we" in relation to whichever team someone supports. As in "we got to the finals" and "We'll do well this season" as if the person saying it actually plays for that team. I mean, what the hell's that all about? Wario
garbage, every England game will be shown to allow us to support the other team. .... if the other team has a decent chance though, but. I'm not into The Masked Tumshie's sort of entertainments. Me 'n' Peach have started live-media world-cup englobingo already. "Sir Alf" "Geoff Hurst" " .. it is now!" etc, you know the drill. Every mention of 1766 or whenever it was gets a double. (Quarter-gills, of course). Better reserve our beds in the Andrew Duncan first.
6538
Let me apologise on behalf of people that like football more than talking to you for the inconvenience Nothing to do with me. I said it was anti-social. People weren't socialising - hence, the conclusion that it is anti-social is a reasonable one. If you have to ask, you don't 'get' it. I'd let it go. Go and read a highbrow book to make yourself feel superior. Not about trying to make my self feel superior. I could take a similar line and say that people say this out of some insecurity related to feelings of inadequacy; they need to associate themselves with something successful? Thery aren't players yet use the word "we" when they should really use the word "they".
OnionTerror
Nope, neither. Just a bloke who thinks football is pointless and boring. I can certainly sort of understand that point of view, if its two very mediocre teams playing each other (say Blackburn - Wolves ) in the premier league, on a wet sunday in November, but knock-out competitions do add an extra dimension. Watching it on a screen (be it in a pub or at home), you do lose a big dynamic from the game rather being at a ground yourself...I've gone to some shite non-league grounds (as well as the big shiny stadiums including Wembley) and the whole day can be enjoyable, and I have fond memories of those days..
