LOL!

The trade gap is piss poor and ruinous for the country, the government are scrabbling around to save £6bn a year when more than that is pissing down the country's trouser leg every month.

UK trade gap widens after ash cloud

Wed 09 Jun 2010

UK trade gap widens after ash cloud LONDON (SHARECAST) - The UK’s goods trade deficit with the rest of the world widened in April as the volcanic ash cloud disrupted transportation of goods.

The deficit on trade in goods rose to £7.279bn from £7.259bn in March, with exports falling by 0.6% and imports by 0.4%, figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show.

The ONS said that, while imports and exports were both affected by the ash cloud, it is impossible to quantify the impact

But only the transportation of outward bound goods it would seem.

When your two main trading partners* are cutting back it makes sense that exports will fall. Duh.

At least China is exporting more so there is some comfort there. Hang on..........................

Most Asia stocks recover on China export jump
Sugita Katyal, 8:34, Wednesday 9 June 2010
SINGAPORE (Reuters) - Most Asian stock markets clawed back early losses Wednesday and the euro stabilised as news of stronger-than-expected exports from China offset worries that Europe's debt problems will stifle demand for Asian goods.
The Chinese numbers also sparked what looked to be a tentative return of risk appetite in markets globally.

The Gbp needs to lose another 30%.

Nope, if your structural problems internally are not fixed all you do is increase the cost of imports and reduce the value of your exports.

It is the intentional bubble blowing that is preventing investment in and increase of the manufacturing capacity in a competitive global market.

Lots of lovely brownfield sites to sell for overpriced housing though.

Surely the ash cloud would effect imports and exports in the same proportion. Or is it only exports that get effected by volcanic ash clouds?

Is it not the case that our largest export market is the EU and is it not also true that nearly all exports are shipped via the Chunnel? Seems to me this is another load of shoe menders much as the late snow was used by EAs to explain the turning property market.

indeed, imports of oil for planes would have taken a tumble.
