Harriet Harman - I Despise No Politician More

Recommended Posts

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/politics/10271228.stm

"On Tuesday, acting Labour leader Harriet Harman said she was nominating Ms Abbott because she did not want to see a 'men-only' contest."

Never mind that the woman is useless, never mind that she could potentially beat the person most suited to the job, all Harman sees is a leadership contest with five blokes and a woman.

Can she not see the insult she's heaping on her own sex here? Does she think that women want to get the nod just because they are women?

It may well be that there aren't enough women in politics, and it's certainly true that Labour doesn't have any women suitable for the post. However, supporting a person like Diane Abbott with a track record of incompetence and double standards because she has a uterus tells you all you need to know about Harman.

I will never vote Labour as long as Harman is in Labour. I know many other men feel the same way.

I think it will be hilarious and just-desserts if Abbot ends up as Labour leader.

I may be just an old cynic, but I suspect that most people will take preferment no matter the means.

EDITED to qualify my statement a little: I'm not suggesting that everyone is Niccolo Machiavelli, so 'no matter the means' is a bit strong, but I would certainly think people mostly wouldn't balk just because of positive discrimination, nepotism or other 'minor' ways of getting a leg up.

If Diane Abbott wants to stand for the leadership, good for her. I don't think she'd make a good leader and I don't think she'll win, but at least she's walking the talk. As For Harriet Harman, I can't be bothered to get too worked up with distaste for her, I just think it's better she's out of government than in it!

If Harman really wanted to see a credible woman in the leadership contest, why not put herself foward? After all, as deputy leader and acting leader, having held a cabinet role for years, she is the most qualified, respected by her party, (even if much of the country detest her) and best able to put foward whatever arguments she feels need to be voiced by a female candidate

Instead she backs a no hoper who is best known for cuddling up to Portillo on a late night TV sofa.

Her stance looks to me like the window dressing of political correctness. How does this really fight the equality battle? Is Abbott a lesbian, as well as female and black? That would tick a few extra boxes too!!!!!!!!!!

Hedgefunded, your last paragraph sums it up perfectly in the OP!

I've changed my mind in the last week.

I now believe Diane Abbott should be leader of the labour party.

She's at least got a smile unlike the last dour bstrd.

I feel like one of those robots/computers in circa '60s sci-fi who can be tied in knots by a simple verbal conundrum.

Credible woman... Put herself forward... Credible woman... Put herself forward... CREDIBLE WOMAN... PUT HERSELF... *smoke seeps from the vents* CREDIBLE... CREDIBLE... MALFUNCTION, MALFUNCTION! *explodes*

I agree, Diane for Leader! (Just to make sure Labour stay in opposition for ever.)

I think HH knows Diane can't win therefore it is safe for HH to support Diane. This is effectively a neutral position so does not undermine HH's target of retaining deputy leader which will arguably be a longer lasting and more influential role.

As Si1 says, to be fair to HH (I don't know why I would want to be - I loathe the festering mess) I'm pretty sure this has shit all to do with the leadership. She knows DA has absolutely no chance what-so-ever of being elected, so she can demonstrate her anti-anti-discrimination fairytale safe in the knowledge it will have no impact on anything at all. Indeed it might undo some of the women-only-except-where-my-husband-wants-to-stand damage in the eyes of the eternally idiotic.

Good for one election ... then think of the relief when they find The Liar Jr a leader or two later

Why is it Ok to say she should stand because she is the only woman? If she'd had said that she should stand because she would be the only black candidate, then there would be uproar. What's the difference? In which case, let's make sure we have an open gay, a lesbian, an amputee, a learning difficulty, someone with ADHD, and an obese. Then we can have a really fair contest.

Harman really should be boiled down for glue.

I think you got it in one there.

A vile, odious, sanctimonious woman who does more to harm the 'cause', but apart from that... and she may have her knockers, I like her. ;)

Following on from Ms Harmen's logic.....

In my limited public sector experience (and after viewing HR data), women out number men in my organisation by 4 to 1.

To readdress this discrepancy and blatant organisational sexual injustice, I propose that all staff to be made redundant in the next coming years to be women only. This will be the perfect opportunity to address this horrific gender imbalance.

Next time some Harfwit points to an imbalance and cries discrimination (or worse) ...

Ask what they propose to do about the biggest imbalance of all in our society. What will Harfwit do to get more women into our prisons?

Saw Diane Abbott on the last BBC QT - No one takes her seriously, she doesnt even seem to take herself seriously, it all just seemed a bit of a giggle, this leadership stuff. Came across a total airhead. More Sarah Palin than Obama.

Mmmmmm Sarah Palin. I'd have her in my Cabinet. Love to!

I couldn't even get wood after a viagra over dose and my eyes being gouged out for DA.

Do you think HH would be interested in my evaluation?

To my mind, Harriet Harman and Diane Abbott do incredible damage to the idea of women in politics.

They are both hypocrites to the point of distraction, condescening, patronising and sectarian. They transmit a very bad image of political women, and to be honest, I wish they would both disappear.

In a choose-or-die scenario of Harman vs. Abbott, I'd pick Abbott any day.

If This Week's anything to go by, at least she's got a sense of humour and doesn't spout the endless, cliched, question-dodging wafflespeak which is all most Labour talking heads can come out with.

Never mind men, I don't know of one woman who's got a good word to say about Harperson. She epitomises the bossy, pious, we-know-best-ism so loathed by so many.
