How To Get Rid Of An Old Mini

Recommended Posts

I have an old mini in the garage which failed its MOT three years ago. Basically it needs a new body shell. It's 1978 vintage and been in the family since new. It was my parents' car originally, I learned to drive in it and I used it regularly for twenty years from the mid-1980s. It has about 80.000 miles on the clock.

I originally intended to do it up, but realistically I don't have time and I need the space it's taking up in the garage. What I would be grateful for is advice on how to dispose of it. I would love it to go to a good owner prepared to do it up and give it a new lease of life, but sadly it might only be attractive as a source of spares.

Has anyone any experience of disposing of a similar old car and any advice to offer me on the best way to proceed?

Ebay, or you could try one of the specialist mini magazines.

Definitely ebay, but in the classic cars section. It'll cost you £8 to list it (cheap) but a 10% 'final value fee'. A reserve price is another £7.99 if you want to set a bottom price.

I've seen loads of wrecks sell for daft money on there. If it's actually driveable, even if only as far a trailer, it'll go for a lot more than just scrapping it.

List it on Mini world http://www.miniworld.co.uk/ someone will be round like a shot to take it off your hands and lovingly restore it.

I have always loved minis but realism stopped me from buying one, I don't want to drive a car where my left shoulder is halfway across the passenger seat.

You could also have a butchers in the yellow pages for local breakers who might take it off your hands. Autotrader used to have a section for cars that were being broken (probably still do). Place ads in a couple of free papers. Exchange & Mart?
