I remember enjoying Different Strokes when it was on tv and latterly being horrified by the thought of it.

Mixed up guy - sad life.

The thought of what?

The horrible thing that was Different Strokes, a rich elderly man adopts too cute young boys; nothing wrong with that per se, but there is, so much very wrong with that, and then to intentionally make Colemans' disability the core joke/buy line was quite astonishing.

And, then you get to the racial issues.

Never watched it, even then I realised it was TV for the thick kids at school, like the A-Team.

I have watched thick kid TV, I found Bottom hilarious but accept it is TV for morons.

Yes, the catch phrases have filtered through so I get that!

That's all there is. Nothing more to "get".

Don't know about others, but I'm shocked by this news...

...I thought Coleman was already dead!

If I recall, the daughter in Different Strokes descended into a world of drugs and hard core pornography.

Yet another stereotype of a rich little white girl getting back at daddy.

The guy who played his older brother Willis ended up with a coke habit and a couple of murder charges (he was found not guilty IIRC)

Doesn't seem to have been that beneficial a career move for the kids in that show

Dana Plato was my main reason for watching this show. Anyone remember the beauty pageant episode?

...I thought Coleman was already dead!

His career died first.

Softcore (think early Channel 5 Shannon Tweed stylee) and only a handful of films.

I think you may be confusing Dana Plato with Kimberly Drummond. Conrad Bain wasn't really her father.

Damn, you had to spoil it for me

What? You mean I'm confusing real life with a TV series, no way!

Merely soft-core films, from what I've read. She seemed to have a pretty crappy life after that show by all accounts - pity 'cos she was a bonny girl. I think her later carreer stemmed from desperation, rather than anything rebellious.

It's pretty typical of child stars though. There are supposed to be a myriad of child protection laws in place - dating back to the 1930's and the one enacted in response to Jackie Coogan getting ripped off by his parents - but they don't seem to do a great deal of good.

Yes I thought that he was dead too! Then perhaps I am thinking about the midget on that island programme that was also sh*t.

Heartbreaking news for fans of the 80s hit sitcom Diff’rent Strokes. The son of Dana Plato, who played Kimberly Drummond, has committed suicide, RadarOnline.com has confirmed.

What makes this news even more heart wrenching is that 25-year-old Tyler Lambert did it almost exactly 11 years to the day after his mother took her own life.

Tyler reportedly suffered depression around the anniversary of his mother’s death. Plato died of an intentional drug overdose in on May 8, 1999. Taylor committed suicide on May 6, 2010.

The National Enquirer reports that Tyler was so obsessed by his mother that he recently honored her by getting teardrop tattoos on his face with her ashes added to the ink. He also had a tattoo on his forearm with his mother’s name.

Tyler reportedly died from a self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head.
